Mobile Phone Picture Messaging Overseas?
I was always under the impression that it wasn't possible to send a Picture Message from a UK mobile phone to for example a Norwegian mobile phone where the picture message is displayed on the phone.
I'm on 02 Pay as you Go and i've suddenly been able to send and receive these kind of messages to foreign mobiles. Even the 02 website only has UK to UK picture messaging priced up so that points to picture messaging to overseas networks not meant to work.
Questions
1. Has it always been possible to do this?
2. Can other people check to see if theirs works if they haven't been able to do it before.
3. Which networks work or not ?
Thanks.

Hmm, most Norwegian networks, if not all, work to at least Virign UK and O2 UK, oh and Orange, from past experience.

I was pretty shocked when it worked to Norway as i've spent years trying.
The person in Norway sent me one first so maybe that made a difference.
The other strange thing is when i did it from work it appeared to not cost me anything.....?

Ah, it does cost, it takes anything upto 48hours to bill correctly, something to do with the way Norwegian networks bill internationally :S

Oh right, even though it didn't come off my pay as you go balance it might do at a later date?
[edit]
Any idea how much it costs for a 02 pay as you go phone? I pay 10 pence for an international text message.

Yup, it does. I've been fooled by this...
Mine typically cost around 60p IIRC.
Bear in mind this was a year ago.

Thanks for the warning! lol
Am i right in thinking that the other phone user doesn't get charged for receiving a picture message from my phone. I know they get charged in America and Canada for calls?

Re: Mobile Phone Picture Messaging Overseas?
I've been able to for years on Virgin Mobile... 35p. From memory France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland worked fine. Often send text only MMS when I'm away, as it's 25p for a SMS and the character limit is ridiculously high...

I honestly don't think so, as that is a roaming charge, not a call charge.
Might be worth checking though, just incase...

Re: Mobile Phone Picture Messaging Overseas?
did you know that if you ring a land line from the uk to another country you dial 0845 2449 449 then your required number and press hash you will only be charged national rate. i ring australia and the USA every week and my calls are usually around £1.50 per call for an hour

Re: Mobile Phone Picture Messaging Overseas?
Snoopz - best to have a word with the networks mate.
I remember back in 1999 having to buy an O2 P&G phone to text my g/f in Ireland because my contract Orange phone wouldn't do it. Whilst over there recently, some of my friends phones would get charged silly rates for texts & calls, whilst I would get charged for only some of the calls (I know there's changes being made regarding this).
A guy I spoke to at O2 Ireland said it was simply something like O2 Ireland and O2 UK not being set up to send/receive yet and eventually everything to everywhere (within reason?) would work. I find that a bit hard to believe this late in the game, but..
Worth a call to the relevant CS I suppose.
FWIW, my mate in Scandanavia has no probs getting SMS/MMS from me in the UK.

Thanks for the tip, I'm just pleased it works and i'm interested to see if i get billed for it in 48hrs or not as i'm sure i was getting charged 10pence when i did it from home and nothing at all when i did it from work which is in a 3G area rather than just a GPRS area at home.

Re: Mobile Phone Picture Messaging Overseas?
Let us know?
I'd be happy to pay full whack (whatever that might be) to send a photo off the phone of the nipper over to her Grandparents without having to come home first, upload it to the PC and email it.
Yes, yes I know - we're spoiled!
