Todays news on the Beeb shows Microsoft have now cut the price again of the xbox360 - making it cheaper to buy than either the Wii or PS3 (entry level that is)

Re: Xbox 360 price cut

Yep

The BBC story doesn't give all the prices though (well, not the Premium in £ anyway).

Arcade - £159.99, down from £199.99.

Premium/Pro - £199.99, down from £249.99.

Elite - £259.99, down from £299.99.

Re: Xbox 360 price cut

Was happy to read this today, since my 360 now only plays games for 30mins or so b4 cutting out with the "dirty Disc" or "disc cannot be read" errors. Dunno if its worth paying £50 - £70 for a new drive or to just buy a new console and sell the other to someone who wants to get it repaired.

Re: Xbox 360 price cut

Microsoft has confirmed it will drop the price of all three versions of its Xbox 360 console in the UK and Europe from Friday.

Following the games industry's prediction last week that Microsoft would drop the price later this month, the Xbox 360 manufacturer has now officially confirmed the news.

The move will see the entry level Xbox 360 Arcade system undergo a £40 price cut as the machine drops from £199.99 to £159.99

The mid-priced Xbox 360 Pro, which features a 20Gb hard drive and one wireless controller, will fall from £249.99 to £199.99.

And the top-of-the-range Xbox 360 Elite, known for its HDMI port, will see its price drop from £299.99 to £259.99.

Now which one to buy prem or elite?
Do you think there will do game bundles, cos i have to get extra controller and fifa 08.

Re: Xbox 360 price cut

Ah, good old DS gaming news....

They all have HDMI ports, Mr Gibbon!

Unless you really want to pay extra for a matte black console rather than white, or you *really* need the extra 100GB HDD space, then I'd just go for the Premium. £200 is a bargain!

All 360s now have HDMI, & should have the newer & more reliable "Falcon" motherboard.

Do you think that the extra 100GB is needed for xbox360,
cos 20GB seems enough,i am leaning towards the premium, its a great buy.

Re: Xbox 360 price cut

All depends on what you want.

At the moment, I personally don't really think there's much need for 120GB (& I have an Elite, lol).

Although MS have launched a movie download service (Xbox Live Video Marketplace), the movies are all for rental only, & the DRM means you only have them for a short period of time. So no need for megaspace there.

Game saves don't take lots of space.

Demos & trailers can be big... but they're not something you need to keep, 'cos surely you just delete them after you have played the demo or watched the trailer.

Xbox Live Arcade games... not sure of the current size limit on them, but I think the 20GB drive is probably big enough for plenty.

NB: the 20GB drive actually has around 14GB usable space, & the 120GB drive 114GB usable space, due to reserved space for game caching & Xbox backwards compatability software etc.

I traded my launch-day Premium in for an Elite more for the hope of increased reliability (this was just before they also changed the board in the Premium & Core/Arcade) & decreased noise, than for HDD space. Oh, & 'cos it's black [Goes better with the TV & SkyHD box lol]. Actually wish I had waited... could have got an Elite with "Falcon" instead of "Zephyr", for less money.

And yes, the Premium is a great buy

Oh, if you have an HDTV, & have a surround sound amp with optical in, then I'd actually recommend getting the official MS HDMI cable (or, depending on price difference, paying a bit more & getting an Elite).

Although normally I'd say "buy a cheap HDMI cable, expensive ones are a pointless rip-off!", the problem with the 360 is that if you want to use HDMI *and* optical audio out you need a special MS optical audio dongle, which comes with the official HDMI cable, and is also bundled with the Elite. [you could use the bundled component cable to give you an optical audio out, -but- the plug blocks the HDMI port. The optical audio dongle is slimmer so can be used at the same time as HDMI. Or... you can apparently butcher a 360 component lead to just have the optical audio output & no big fat plug]

Well after reading that you have convinced me to get premium,
hopefully there be some decent bundle packs,
nothing yet in game or argos, etc about prices,
hopefully tomorrow,
thanks for helping me decide.

I need to get one for saturday,
online price war has begun,
thanks for the info.

Was looking through argos and found this

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...20consoles.htm
  • Accessorise your latest new generation of consoles with the ultimate Player's pack.
  • The Mad Catz 360 Mega pack provides you with everything you need to enjoy gaming at a whole new level.
  • Includes wired controller, DVD remote, faceplate and stand.
  • The funky face plate personalises your 360.
  • And if sometimes you don't want to play games and would rather watch one of your favourite DVDs, the Mad Catz DVD remote can allow you do so in comfort, with a 360 stand and storage device allowing you to keep all your games safe.
Extra controller and steering wheel with pedals, etc
seems a good buy.
