I'm sat here now waiting to see if the police turn up and cart me away.

2. Leave it and see if anything happens.
3. Fill him in then phone the Police and Ambulance then explain yourself to them when the damage has been done?
The 3rd option sounds good to me.

How did he phrase it?Did he just say kill?Did he threaten to stab or shoot you?If the latter then maybe you may just be able to say you were scared for your life because of the nature of the threat.

Re: Threats to kill
I'd expect to see this on some of the more *ahem* 'dubious' forums I frequent - but not here!
Unprovoked (without evidence) attack - not good. See your situation Nidge, but you should have just spoke to the police. IANAL but I'm reasonably sure they don't need evidence to back up an allegation of threat at this stage. They'd have gone round to have a word. That said, I don't know how advanced/serious it was. Hope all works out ok anyway.

Re: Threats to kill
He could not have been that scared as he went after him and beat him up. If this guy is the type to own a gun or has the rep of being likely to use a blade then I doubt Nidge would have gone after him.
A true psycho will come back and do you no matter how hard you beat him time and time again I know a few people who scare me in that way . I could fight them and win and they could stab me in my bed at a later date. One guy I know did this and the chap he knifed died 3 times but was resuscitated and still never turned him in crazy world we live in

Did this guy actually threaten you himself? if so why didnt you do him then instead of waiting? I hope your not gonna tell me someone else told you

His words on Saturday afternoon were I'm going to kill you, it didn't come to me 2nd hand it came straight from his mouth.

I told my landlord who's a copper, he said you did the wrong thing and in another way you did the right thing. Nothing has come of it as yet, no police have been to my place, the guy in question hasn't been seen since the incident yesterday.

Well he'll either come back...or he won't.
I wqent to the piccies the other night and saw No Country For Old Men
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Coun..._Old_Men_(film)
Now the guy in the film who is the killer, I would not want him pursuing me. He's just the kind of guy I'd like to hire. But then i suspect he is so mad that he'd carry out his assignment then kill me too.

Re: Threats to kill
daaannn safffff,,,i presume you mean the original post? Apparently it stemmed from an original in yer actual face..I'm gonna kill you type threat. A lot of people say that as a figure of speech, sometimes humorously. Sometimes people mean it , but rarely. Those who mean it just do it and don't shout about it.

Re: Threats to kill
well if he didnt mean but is the type to be quite violent then he will either stab you in the back or whack you with a baseball bat if he isnt the type then you beat up a guy for nothing
Another query. What did you do to provoke the threat?

Re: Threats to kill
Oh I thought the original poster was aking a hypotheical question.
If someone issued a threat of "i'm goin to kill you" in the pub, wouldn't it be followed by a smashed glass to the face?

Re: Threats to kill
I think its difficult to comment, as only the OP was there. So we wouldnt know how it was said, i.e was it said in anger, as a joke, or with intent.
IMO if i felt that my life was in imminent danger then I would take action there and then. Otherwise i would let the police handle it just to cover my own back as I wouldnt want to get to know 'big bubber' for something that could be avoided.
By going around and sorting it after the event, then it does look pre-meditated as if youve had time to think about it and then go and find the person then youve had time to contact the police. But if you've just given them a good kicking as soon as they've made the threat then at least you can say you were doing it self defence
