How long is it going to be before a member of the Cabinet is found to be a failed asylum seeker? Clearly what's needed is an enquiry......

Re: You couldn't make it up

You can waste all teh money you like on paying lip service to problems by having enquiries. Perhaps it woudl be better if some of the mass of penpusher civil servants actually got off their backsides and committed to resolving the numerous issues and faults with their vaious systems.

Yeah but enquiries are easier, conducted at taxpayers expense, provide jobs for the boys and allow people to get on with feathering their own nests....

Re: You couldn't make it up

Why the need for an enquiry? Any business taking on new staff have to follow the AIA, which includes copying a number of pieces of ID from an approved list.

They will now be audited and will face a large fine

So the Home Office is going to fine itself

(ps I was being sarcastic about the need for another enquiry you know )

How long I wonder before all those copies of confidential ID will turn up on a roundabout or tip somewhere!

The home office was not his employer, he was a a security guard employed by another company with a contract to a goverment office. Its the employers responsibility not the place of work.

The same applies for all temp staff - Its the agencies responsibility to store the required documents

Re: You couldn't make it up

Well the Home Office clearly doesn't take very seriously the monitoring of the companies it employs does it. They're as much to blame for this as the company involved IMHO - the only thing they're really good at is passing the buck.

Re: You couldn't make it up

For the last 3 jobs I've had during the interview process I've had to supply either proof of UK citizenship or right to work in the UK at some point prior to starting.
I was under the impression this was a legal requirement for companies to do and if they were found employing staff with no right to work in the UK they could be fined.

Is this the case and if so are the government now raking in fines from all the companies who have been supplying illegal immigrants as staff.

The laws are quite clear and companies are randomly audited. I personally wouldnt expect the goverment to check prior to dishing out a contract to what I assume was a previously reputable and established company.

The failure, which im sure will be pointed out soon is the security checks. I was of the thinking that all ew employees at high profile goverment buildings would be required to pass police checks.
