BNP Wives.... (or even hubbies)

Is there anyone on this forum who is a BNP wife (or even hubby). Did they know that their other half's political leaning were BNP at the time, or was it a suprise? And how did they get on.

Just watching a documentary on Sky One about women married to BNP members so I thought I'd ask here.

There's a woman on it who requested a white european midwife for her labour. Turns out she was given a black carribean one and requested a white one again, to deliver her baby. When asked why by the interviewer she said "I have nothing against her, but im white and i wanted a white woman delivering my baby" (or words very similar). I'd have thought that the last thing a mother would be worrying about when delivering her baby would be the colour of the midwife. does anyone else share her sentiments?

Well hopefully not anyone here! I don't know why your surprised though, some people are racists. They will deny it, even to themselves finding some sort of jusitification for it (in case, the fact she had "Nothing against her" but they are and it happens.

Actually the impression I get from a few of our members would lead me to think them or their missus would say such things.
But I'd be surprised if anyone admits to it in public.

There are signs one can read that are as good as admission:

"I've got nothing against [x|y|z] but..."
"I'm not racist but..."
"Some of my best friends are [x|y|z] but..."

I have more grey areas than I did 10 years ago, but that's fatherhood for you.

What do you mean you're more racist than 10 years ago? Normally people get less stupid as they get older.

Re: BNP Wives.... (or even hubbies)

While not strictly on topic, i find myself discriminating much more often now then when i used to when i was only a few years younger, what's worse is i'm now the immigrant and the roles are reversed.. It's weird to say the least.

Not something i'm proud of, for example, i was discriminating against people of faith earlier in the week, until i realised how stupid i was being, bloody eye-opener when you look at things from a different perspective i'll tell ya...

There are a lot of grey areas, it is very rarely a black or white issue (ahem).

There are hard line nasty racist thugs that will beat up, even kill black or asian people (however young black kids seem to be adept at killing each other at the moment).

Then you get people, myself included, who don't consider themselves racist but would then laugh at a perceived racist joke.

Then you have to ask yourself is that in the same arena,

For example take this joke:

A black man walks into a pub with big red, yellow and green parrot on his shoulder.

"Bloody hell" says the barman "he's a beauty, where did you get him from."

The parrot replies "Africa, there's millions of the b****rds there.

Now, I heard Bernard Manning tell that joke on a television show were he roundly accused of telling racist and abusive jokes.

And just last month whilst I was India, our tour guide (who was Black not Indian) told it to us, he thought it was hilarious.

So it falls into the arena that if a black person tells a racist joke, it's not racist because he is parodying himself?? but if a white person tells the same joke then he is being racist as he has no right to parody a black person, not being black himself.

As has been discussed here racism is usually perceived on the basis that if the receiver of the act believes they have been the victim of an act of racism, then they have.

Which is again very subjective but probably the best way to gauge it at the moment, but it relies on the such persons not playing the race card at every conceivable opportunity.

There needs to be an amount of tolerance on all sides.

Self-deprecating humour.

Quote:
The boundaries for this kind of humor are often more relaxed than for other kinds of humor. For example, whereas a Jewish joke told by a non-Jew may be considered anti-semitic and offensive, the same joke told by a Jew may be taken in good humor. The ability to laugh at oneself and the absurdities in one's own culture is often considered a good character trait.

I just read that & all I could visualise and hear is Chris Rock

To me there are 2 kinds of racism, the direct kind where people are verbally and physically abused & the indirect kind which comes in the form of jokes and banter.

Which is worse, depends on the type of person who is on the receiving end.

All this reminds me of a joke

Re: BNP Wives.... (or even hubbies)

There is a difference between telling a joke about yourself and telling a joke about someone else. You are always allowed to be more deprecating about yourself than someone else, from someone else it will seem quite hostile. This is pretty obvious so I am not sure how people always bring this up to highlight a hypocrisy, it's a understandable one that apples to all people irrespective of race and faith.

I.E I am relatively Short, I can make jokes about it, my friends can make some jokes about it and it's fine. I know it's a joke. If some random person started making jokes about it I would perceive it as a insult.

So as with anything these types of joke depend on a situation and trying to make it a simple case of "he's allowed to say it, why can't I?" is flawed.

Which is the point that is being made, that there are many grey areas in the racism debate depending on the individual.

BBK's stipulation that starting off a sentence with:
Quote:
"I've got nothing against [x|y|z] but..."
"I'm not racist but..."
"Some of my best friends are [x|y|z] but..."
Is an admission that you actually are a racist is incorrect.
