Dvd/vcr combo

I am going to buy a dvd recorder/vcr combi. could somebody recommend a good model to me. I want a fairly straight forward model that is fairly easy to operate and I dont really need one with a hard drive Thanks.

My dad's got a Panasonic - DVD recorder, VCR recorder, with a Freeview tuner. He seems pretty happy with it and picture quality seems fine.

Don't know the model though - possibly this one though I'm not sure

Personally, I would not buy anything that does not have a Freeview tuner built in because otherwise it will be obsolete within the next 4 years.

Shove a freeview tuner next to it and connect to the SCART socket and then point the recording facility and the AV / SCART input. Future-proofed! Job done! :-)

To an extent yes, but it would be no good if you wanted to go away for a couple of weeks but record programs from more than one channel over that period.

Mine can...it has GuidePlus built in and a an IR transmitter which sits in front of the Sky box to change the channel thats about to be recorded.

Edit - just found the correct terminology for the IR - it's called G-Link.

But a separate Freeview box means more Scart knitting to sort out, there's a good chance that switching between units doesn't work, there's another remote to lose and another menu to find your way around.

Personally, I wouldn't but anything now without an integrated digital tuner.

That is a vaild point so maybe I would change my assertion to "I would not buy anything without an integrated Freeview tuner or IR transmitter."
