telephone exchanges
Hi i have left vm got my bt phone line installed only to find out they have connected me to the wrong exchange.
so if anybody has any knowledge in this area -
1. is it possible to switch exchanges (note i have been connected to the furthest and most populated exchange)
2. is there anythin i can do to force bt to switch me (everyone else in street and surrounding streets are connected to the exchange i require.
any insight would be appreciated

Re: telephone exchanges
Very unlikely there is a cable route from your house to more than 1 exchange!

Re: telephone exchanges
BT would have connected you to whatever exchange your line was running to, unless they physically laid your line brand new on the day they reconnected you then you will always have been connected to that exchange and cannot be moved without a lot of expense being incurred.
Unless you have a fault on the line or BT can see a problem with your connection to the exchange you will not be moved. How do you know everyone but you in your area are on a different exchange??

It would be highly unusual for you to have a choice of exchanges, BT don't normally run cables to more than one exchange ! What makes you think you are on the "wrong" one.

Re: telephone exchanges
Its possible to NOT be on the nearest exchange, but theres nothing you can do about it.
Sometimes exchanges are built as towns expand but that doesn't mean all the existing houses/premises will get moved over since it would cost an absolute fortune, it's very expensive to dig up roads to run in cables

Re: telephone exchanges
every other house on this street and surrounding streets are on the other exchange - so why am i different and no not a new install of wires has been bt before in this property.
ps bt do not control what exchange you are on - it is a subsiduary called bt open reach - bt are going to request im put on the normal exchange but open reach may just say no.
this property used to be on the exchange i need to be on.

Only recently, before that it was BTretail...
I can't see why every other house in the street would have cabling to one exchange and you to another... unless there's 2 different PCP's/SCP's feeding your area that were put in at different times and therefore connected to different exchanges as when the first cable route was put in the newer exchange may not have existed.

possibly there are 4 green boxes in the street presuming 2 are for adjoining roads - i have been told by someone from bt, it is possible for me to be connected back to the other exchange if open reach say yes - im not sigining my contract until they sort this as 1 exchange i can get dsl .5meg the other gives me 24meg so you can see why im a bit miffed at them connecting me to the crap exchange when they could of connected me to the one this property used to be on.

I can see where your coming from, I'd want the same I think its going to very much depend on if openreach have enough capacity on the cable to the other exchange and if they're prepared to send someone out to go and rejumper your line in the cab.
Then it will require wholesale/operate to reconfigure the exchange switch to provide you number on a port off one of the linecards in the other exchange.

Try putting in a complaint if C/s don't help then try going higher.
I'm sure you can find the email of someone pretty highup with the use of a popular search engine
