EMail not deleted from NTLWORLD servers

Hi All

I am new on here. Did a search but didn't see any answers to this question, but it's so basic I can't believe nobody else has fallen foul of it.

I have set up my wife's Outlook 2003 @NTLWORLD.COM account to
"leave a copy on the server" and
"delete from the server when deleted from the Deleted Items folder"

So, when I delete an email from the Deleted Items folder in Outlook, I am expecting it to disappear from the server. I assume the server is what WEBMAIL.NTLWORLD.COM is showing?

Anyway, when I do Send/Receive again in Outlook, the message I just deleted gets delivered again. Can this be right???

Actually this is a oversimplification. What really happens is that my wife painstakingly goes through her 194 emails in her inbox and deletes 193 of them. Then she does a Send/Receive and gets 194 again!

And I get to hear about it

Thanks for your help.

Cheers!

Yeah, thanks mate. I tried that, several times, and it still doesn't work. Emails remain on the server.

If you are wanting to leave mail on the server, why not use the IMAP4 protocol instead of POP3?

Re: EMail not deleted from NTLWORLD servers

Firstly, are you connecting to pop.ntlworld.com or imap.ntlworld.com as the incoming mail server?
Secondly, is she just deleting from the inbox or permanently deleting from deleted items as well?

She is trying NOT to leave email on the server, WHEN it is deleted from the "Deleted Items" folder, if possible.

Sounds like it should be possible?

Re: EMail not deleted from NTLWORLD servers

Have had that problem a few times myself. What I have had to do is go in to web mail and delete them from there. That should clear problem. Happens to me a couple of times a year.

Re: EMail not deleted from NTLWORLD servers

Is your wife using the root email account, or a sub email account, e.g. user@ntlworld.com or wife.user@ntlworld.com ?

The way I understand it is that using webmail to access pop3 accounts you can only delete items from the mail-server on the root account, not the sub-accounts!

I expect someone will tell me I'm wrong, but that how it works for me!

She wants to be able to use Outlook 2003 clients on 2 separate computers and delete from the server when she wants to.
