New TV for Christmas

I'm happy with my 32" LCD Sammy, but I am on my 2nd one now. And for that reason I probably won't ever splash out on something too overly expensive as I doubt their longevity compared to the old CRTs. I supose you can say that about any modern day electrical items.

They do take a bit of gettting used to, especially the larger screens as mpg noise and compression artifacts: inparticular blocking when you're watching football/rugby are magnified quite considerably on SD broadcasts. Most LCDs have some sort of digital noise reduction capability so I would definitely bear this functionality in mind if I were shopping for a new TV. Having said that the effectiveness of these DNR functions is relatively limited.

There is an external video processor made by a company called Algolith which is very effective at removing compresion artifacts and digital noise based on a noise reduction algorithm they have developed themselves but one of these boxes will set you back 800 notes.

I went round a mates house and they only have a small flat, but they've got a monster of a tv, and it looked so stupid, and being up close to it the quality wasn't all that either. So yeah I agree you should limit to the size of your room rather than going for a cinema screen.

Not sure on projections though, I bet zingle could answer that one.

Any budget + connection needs? do u need loads of scart and HDMI ports etc
