New TV for Christmas

Hi Guys I currently have this lg set down stairs (not HD)

But I am wanting to buy a HD set for downstairs I have a budget of £600 can you recommend any?

I like the look & the price of these does any one have them or any comments on them?

I want a 32 inch screen, and as I under stand it the newer full HD tvs will only work on 37 inch and above is this correct?

both of those samsungs aren't FULL HD they're HD (aka HD ready). I dont know of any FULL HD sets below 37inch.

What I can tell you is this...

Panasonic is the best make for TVs based on the reviews in which and when I looked last weekend.

LG has ****e reviews when you look at the which mag.

LCD appears in my opinion to have a worse pic quality to plasma - we have a Toshiba LCD which cost £350 for 19inch and the pic is disappointing! BUT....

If you want LCD go for Panasonic.

Panasonic do a 32 inch and a 37 inch LCD screens - the 32 inch is HD the 37 inch is FULL HD - I was in empire direct shop last weekend and you wont believe me when I tell you this - the 37 inch pic was crap compared to the 32 inch. They were near each other and both on SKY and terrestrial it was noticeable the difference - ie. I wouldn't have touched the 37in full HD with a bargepole. Perhaps it was a duff tv but they told me the feed was identical. or perhaps full HD isn't as good with standard definition pictures.

Panasonic TX32LXD70 for £625 and you get a free 5 year warranty if you go in store to buy it.

It has 100hertz but to be honest next to the lower model which didnt have 100htz I couldn't see any difference.

My dad has that Panasonic and imo it doesn't look as good as the Samsung, although the sound is slightly better, it's more expensive too....

Beyond actually going into a decent HiFi/Home Cinema shop (preferably not a major high street electrical retailer) and seeing a few to find which you like, I can't really offer much advice. If you have a branch near you, try Sevenoaks HiFi, or Richer Sounds (Richer has the advantage it is cheaper, but they do end-of-line stuff).

As for the difference between LCD and plasma. Plasma gives better colour reproduction, but uses an awful lot of electricity (nearly twice what the equivalent size CRT uses, and four times what the equivalent size LCD uses).

the whole what tv shall u get and whats best lcd/plasma etc is complicated and you need to look into it and understand it all...

that being said u only want to spend 600 quid as thats the case i wouldnt worry about anything and get what u feel like it wont matter what u get either full hd or hd reader as u wont (i expect) be watching any HD content on it as someone that spends 600 quid on a tv probably wont spend 300 quid on a HD player etc...

so in short get what u can for the money what ever u buy will be out of date when its delivered. If i was u i would look at getting one of the older sony models.

Personaly i wouldnt spend less than £1300 on a TV and will probably wait for the whole 120MHz / LED backlit LCD's thing to be mainstream.

My friend has just bought a Samsung HD ready TV and it is great.
It cost around £500-£600 and he get's 720p but if you are looking for true 1080i then I think you can only get that on 38inch + TV's and they cost a lot more.

Up to 32" get LCD, above 32" get Plasma

whatever you go for make sure that the HDMI port is HDCP compatable, our TV has gone back because the HDMI port dosen't do HDCP.

Well.. It sounds like something I've been expecting has happened. Our Sony Wega 28inch has died. While I fully intend to do what I always advise (and, in fact, will be doing so on Saturday), which is go and see a few sets, any other recommendations for LCDs?
