Connecting PC TO HD tv

Hi Guys

I just bought a new LG 37LF66 HD TV and i would like to connect my pc to the TV (im not really bothered about sound at the moment). I have a Geforce 8800GTS graphics card with dual DVI out so would i be able to use a DVI to HDMI converter for the pc and then use a HDMI cable from that direct to the HDMI port on the TV? also my pc is not located near the tv and i have found that they sell 10 and 20 meter hdmi cables so would i be able to use this with it too or would i get a signal loss or bad picture quality?

Thanks in advane

Re: Connecting PC TO HD tv

DVI-HDMI works a treat, not sure about signal degredation over such a long run, I have my PC connected to the HDTV with a 5m cable and the pic is fine.

No need to use a DVI-HDMI convertor and then the lead, you can pick up the lead with one end HDMI the other DVI.

Re: Connecting PC TO HD tv

Thanks for the post alferret the reason i wanted to use the adapter is that my pc is approximately 10 metres away from the tv and i can only find in some shops a cable with HDMI on 1 end and DVI on the other that is only 5 metres long

Re: Connecting PC TO HD tv

I use normal vga leads and set it at 1360x786 and it's spot on. I didn't like hdmi or the hassles of DVI.

Re: Connecting PC TO HD tv

yes the tv has vga input but i cant get a cable long enough and i would have thought that by using the hdmi and dvi then it would be better quality? and also this way seems more practical with using a longer hdmi cable and dvi to hdmi adapter

Re: Connecting PC TO HD tv

You can make a virtually limitless in length VGA cable with a couple of D-Sub ends from Maplin and a length of CAT5 as long as you're handy with a soldering iron, works beautifully but there's not enough wires for the Digital data lines so no PnP I'm afraid.

10m

The last one is the same brand as my 5m one from the same seller, recommended.

Will he get a better quality with DVI? HD TV's have a native resolution that both VGA and DVI will support

Analog or digital

My monitor has both vga & dvi inputs. I used to use vga, then I got a dvi lead and the image be it static or moving is much better. Its clearer, more vibrant, better colours etc. JMO
