Email lists - what to do??!

Right - here we go - keep up!!

At some point in the past I subscribed to various email lists - well take one real world example: Easyjet

Yes I have a logon account to their site with my current email address...

They keep sending emails to:lee_*********@ntlworld.com.

Now - say I no longer want these "latest flight offers" emails.. I can un-subscribe by click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email right ?

Wong!!! Their system asks me to input my email address - so I feed it the lee_*********@ntlworld.com - the one they are sending email to:

Quote:
There was a problem with your login information!
Please correct the problem and try again!

Sorry, but your log in details are invalid.
OK - send my password:

Quote:
password reminder: Sorry, but the email address you entered does not appear to be registered. Please go back and check your typing carefully.
Fair enough - the system doesn't recognise me because I changed my email address many moons ago.

So - I put in the current correct address...and I logon to my account....however my emailing preferences are not to send me any offers...I never get any offers sent to my current address - which is correct.

So - how do I stop these bloody emails!!

I have a few like this as well!

Re: Email lists - what to do??!

You could set your email prog to automatically delete them. If there's still any email from them you might want to receive then just tell your email prog to delete any that are both from that email address and have [for example] offers in the subject.

I had the same problem with Hoseasons. Their unsubscribe option just went around in circles.

Cancelling my subscription got to be a matter of principle, so in the end I set up a dummy email account and had no problem getting Hoseasons to accept the change of account.

I took great satisfaction in cancelling the email address after I had received my first holiday brochure to it.

Lee, that's some pretty nifty encryption you've got going on there!!

I had the same type of problem recently with unsubscribing so I opted for a variation of joglynne's method.

I changed my email to ple@segof**kyourself.com and, strangely enough, never heard another word from them.

Re: Email lists - what to do??!

Easy...!
Whenever I need to obtain a login and I know the site *will* send spam, I just use a 10-minute email account...
Its set up easily enough and once you have those all important logins, 10 minutes later, the email account ceases to exist... how to keep those details for future reference? forward them to yourself and save them!

Also great for one-offs... like catalogues and brochures and the likes

My email accounts get very little spam these days
