Nokia N95 (Unlocking & Tips)
I tried to Search but it said "Nokia N95" the N95 part was under 4 Letters
I am having my sisters N95 (Vodaphone) contract (she will keep SIM). I looked online & see that you have to PAY to Unlock it with Vodaphone. Anyone done this? Some said 3+ weeks for code...
Can I Unbrand it & Unlock it via a Code? or only in a Mobile Shop
PS. Any tips or good softwear to add to N95 or anyone who has one please drop by & say Hi. I would love to see what extra's you've added to N95

Mobiola Warex is a good one to use your N95 as a web cam. Need bluetooth though.
N95 is a cracking phone and there are plenty of good apps for it.

Reply off Vodafone website.

Please note that it will take up to 6 weeks to receive your NUC. If your phone is less then 12 months old you will be charged £ 19.99. You will receive your NUC by post.
|
Any other way to do it faster?

Re: Nokia N95 (Unlocking & Tips)
There are a few ways you can do this...
1) Pay Vodafone the £20
2) Take it down a local market. A mobile phone stallholder can probably unlock it for £5/£10
3) Look online for Nokia Unlock Code Calculators, or Nokia Cable Unlockers. Depending where you look, they should be free.
It should be noted, however...
Unlocking this N95 will result in the Warranty becoming void. Also, if Vodafone wish for you to send the phone back to them for whatever reason (which they are allowed to do), they may not accept it back, and charge you, as it isn't as they sent it in the first place. (If the phone is over 12 months old, I believe this part doesn't apply to you anyway).

Re: Nokia N95 (Unlocking & Tips)
I'm eligible for an upgrade next Friday (O2), & am seriously considering getting an N95.
I've got more & more fed up with my O2 XDA Mini S (HTC Wizard), so don't want the next one up from that (XDA Trion / Vario 2 etc).
So I'm thinking... back to Nokia & Symbian.
I've seen 4GB micro SDHC cards at amazon for around £25, which seems good.
Anyone with an N95 have any tips on:
- Anything else worth getting for it? Good cases, screen protectors, etc?
- Software for it?
- the N95 itself.

Re: Nokia N95 (Unlocking & Tips)
I've had my N95 for 3 months and I'm still impressed with it. I don't think a case is needed (never have used them really) but when you get yours, make sure the software is V.11 or above (check by entering *#0000#), if it's not you can use the Nokia software suite to update.
If you want to try the satnav, don't bother with the built-in software, use www.nav4all.com instead.
And you need to have the phone open for the GPS to work.
One final thing - no market stall or shop on earth can unlock it - only the networks can. If someone tells you otherwise, they're either lying or mistaken.

Cheers Russ
Have you had any problems with the slide? I've read that it can get quite loose.

It will get a little loose, moreso on the right side but it's only slight and it won't affect performance or your use of it.

Re: Nokia N95 (Unlocking & Tips)
If you use NSS you can change the product code to a euro one and install the non branded v12 software.
As for unlocking, pay the £20 or get your soldering iron out.

Re: Nokia N95 (Unlocking & Tips)
Ordered one from T-Mobile in the end, on Friday.
Phoned O2, to see if they'd give me anything extra to upgrade & stay with them (seeing as the website says you get a "bonus for loyalty").
They offered me a £10 unlimited data bolt on (which isn't on the O2 website), which is more than T-Mobile charge for unlimited Web & Walk.
The T-Mobile tariff works out better for me too, than the O2 one.
So..I thought I'd finally say goodbye to O2 after various high street & online contracts over the last 5 years or so, & switch to T-Mobile.
Damn thing's out of stock though... hopefully they'll get some in on Monday/Tuesday & I'll get my nice new N95 on Tuesday/Wednesday.
Already ordered a Sandisk 4GB microSDHC card from Amazon.
Also, apparently the NXT Mobile Application works on the N95 (even though it's not listed), so I can use my N95 to control my Lego Mindstorms NXT

Re: Nokia N95 (Unlocking & Tips)
LOL, yeah, maybe.
Still, the 8GB will probably cost a fair bit more for a while.
Plus although it has 8GB it doesn't have a card slot. I think I'd rather use cards, & have a bit more expandability.
The increased RAM & battery on the 8GB do sound pretty good though (especially the battery, with what I've read of the N95's battery life!).

Re: Nokia N95 (Unlocking & Tips)
flext on t-mobile is a great service, i dont use many texts normally but then on 1 day i may use loads but on flext its all under 1 price plan, not wasting anything.
i do find when i ring out, it takes 20-30 sec to connect to the number i'm ringing at times. full signal and battery, but feels like no service, then it rings after 20 seconds. anyone else notice this?
