Scientific Atlanta 2100 With VM
I got VM 20mb installed and also got a free Scientific Atlanta 2100 Cable modem. (is this modem any good!?)
My question is this (if you would be so kind) is there a direct route into admin panel (like with ADSL routers) you know an ip entry 192.168.1.1 ?
I don't seem to see one.
Also it comes up sometimes that Local Area Connection is disconnected and then connects again about a min later, I have checked all wires and everything is working ok with the pc, is this just the modem or is this common?
Thank you.

Hi CIS,
First off, welcome aboard !
You can reach the 2100 admin panel by navigating to http://192.168.100.1
As for the disconnections, I've not had that problem, it could be that your modem is dropping sync, once you've got to the admin pages check the logs.

Re: Scientific Atlanta 2100 With VM
Hi,
Lucky you ! My speeds are all over the place, not had anything over 15Mb/s yet... ah well...!
I'm a little concerned about your upstream power level, looks a little high to me, mines at 41dBmv.
Hopefully someone else will confirm/deny..

Its probably dropping its connection as the upstream power levels is V. high.

Re: Scientific Atlanta 2100 With VM
How do I go about lowering the upstream power level (mind you, the connection has not dropped in a few hours) and the level is now at - 59.5 dBmV

Re: Scientific Atlanta 2100 With VM

Re: Scientific Atlanta 2100 With VM
It has not disconnected in a while now (hours) and I have been on it all day. So I think I will just leave it and maybe get tech out if I have any big problems, because the speeds are flying, my downloads today have not dropped below 2500.0 Kbytes/s (2.5MB/Sec) and I am pulling a 600mb file down in 5 mins.
Thanks for all the support. very nice of you all.

You still realy need to get that upstream power level attenuated. Should be below 58 and above 30 to function normally.

Re: Scientific Atlanta 2100 With VM
No choice now, as the internet connection died a death this morning, I put the pc on, did a speed test (20meg flying) went to load up a webpage and nothing, from that the cable light was flashing and then just went out. No upstream at all and the down rate was on -17, also no mac address, bla bla
So I called tech support and they are sending an engineer out tomorrow to take a look see, but from what I can make out, a lot of people are having a lot of problems.

If possible try to ensure the engineer doesnt just swap the modem or add an attenuator to the back of the modem. He will need to make his adjustments from the cabinet to make them perminent.

Thanks for the good advice.
Just so I can get it right, what is the cabinet. is it the small white box on the inside of the room, where the cable enters the house?
So I can take a look on the day and see if he goes near it.
