Cable+VCR+DVD=TV
Hello.
Can I put the following together (so they all work!)
A Pace ntl cable box;
a standard (Philips) VCR;
a Panasonic (top end) DVD;
a tele (ordinary Philips).
I've got enough SCART leads, but I thought I'd get an expert opinion before I try it out.
And if it does have a chance of functioning, what cables/leads do I put where (now there's a question)?
Thanks.
Allen.

Re: Cable+VCR+DVD=TV
Have a look at this site which deals with the wiring up of different set ups.
Depending on the number of scart sockets on your TV you may or may not need the switch box shown in the illustration dealing with your equipment.

Re: Cable+VCR+DVD=TV
Hello Jo, and thanks for that.
It helps a bit, but it doesn't quite solve the problem. I (sort of) understand the principle of daisy-chaining the devices, but which bit does the TV hang off? I've got a TV out scart on the Pace box, and a TV out scart on the DVD machine.
Is it a question of suck it and see, and finding the best combination?
Allen.

Re: Cable+VCR+DVD=TV
Have a look at this page. Tick the boxes for TV, VCR, DVD & set top box. Also enter the number of scarts on your TV & DVD, then click on connect...

Have a look at this site
http://www.dtg.org.uk/consumer/connection_wizard.html
and supply the relevant equipment details & it will generate a connection diagram.
Note the recommended option requires the STB to be on standby in order to watch a DVD, if the TV only has one SCART socket.
<edit> Cobbydaler beat me to it for the idea - different site, though

Re: Cable+VCR+DVD=TV
Hello Jo.
Burke that I am, I hadn't really looked at Panasonic's manual, and lo, tucked away on page 93, was this:
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...uk/cabletv.jpg
Which works just fine. As it happens, the diagram is for a Qlink TV, which mine isn't, and shows a satellite box, but it works just the same with a cable STB, and the whole caboosh still works as a STB - VCR - DVD - TV link-up.
I DID have two scart inputs on the TV, but it works fine with only one. I have used the second one, but it doesn't help much.
The input-switching is done on the Panasonic itself, which has an input select switch on the remote control (not sure if this is standard these days).
So, having become the expert, (ho ho) if anyone else with a similar set-up wants dead basic advice, get in touch.
Thanks again, Jo.
Allen.

Re: Cable+VCR+DVD=TV
Great news that you have conquered your set up problems Allen. This is how most of us, well me really , get the experience we use here to help the other members. It's surprising how much you can pick up and learn from this forum.
Have fun now you're up and running.
Jo

Can't resist saying though. Not reading the manual does seem to be a very 'man' thing

Re: Cable+VCR+DVD=TV
Just a rider to my comments above:
Having put the 'extra' link in (STB to TV ext 2), I DID find a very useful function for it. Before, I could record from (built-in) freeview on the DVD, and watch another previously recorded programme on the DVD. But WITH the ext 2 link, I can record the freeview programme onto DVD and ALSO watch a live cable TV programme at the same time by switching to Ext 2 on the television.
So, thanks again.
Allen.
PS And you're quite right, not reading the manual is DEFINITELY a man thing. Thought I was cured, but obviously not....
