Leaving modem on 24/7.
Is it ok to leave the modem a Virgin 255, a Linksys router and access point plugged in 24/7.

Yes. Our's is rarely turned off (although we do power down the PCs when we get chance to do so overnight or while at work).

Re: Leaving modem on 24/7.
Yes.
It is fine to leave them plugged in.
Your best bet with new equipment is just to test it out a while in case it did malfunction, but once you are happy it is working fine, then you can leave it on.
Just make sure you obviously don't put things on top of it so it can breathe. They can get hot.
Also, make sure you don't overload wall sockets using too many extension cables, etc.
All this is fairly standard stuff.

Re: Leaving modem on 24/7.
My modem and wireless router has been on for three years continuously now.
As above, make sure that it has adequate ventilation.

Re: Leaving modem on 24/7.
Sorry don't agree.
I turn my router off overnight or when it's not going to be used for a few hours.
This allows it to cool down and it saves on electric - ok it's only a few pence but I don't see the point of leaving it on if it's not going to be used.
As Halcyon says - make sure you are not blocking the vents so it has some air circulating.
Also - I'd be inclined to turn it off during a thunderstorm!
And one more thing - buy a good surge protector and make sure you also connect the phone cable through it so it's protected.
BUT - yes you can leave it on 24/7 - it's your choice!

My router and Set Top Box (instead of the modem) are on 24/7 like my computer - can't download the latest Linux distro again and again otherwise

Re: Leaving modem on 24/7.
I leave my modem and router switched on 24/7 barring reboots!
No problems with the modem in the 6 or so years I've had it and over a year for the router!

Re: Leaving modem on 24/7.
My SACM never gets switched off. My router only gets powered down if I'm upgrading it or there's a power cut.

Does this mean you'll be offline most of the Summer?
