No picture through HDMI
Evening all. The latest problem with my V+ box is that it will not give me any pictures through HDMI. I have reinstalled the scart lead and can now get a picture but obviously not in high def.
I don't think the fault lies with my television. So what do you experts think? Is it the box or is there a fault at Virgin's end?

Re: No picture through HDMI
it's either be a box fault, the cable, or the TV.
Can you possibly check the hdmi cable and TV with another device? (dvdplayer/ps3 etc), to rule them out?
This is of course assuming you've made the change in the V+'s video options and confirmed the change (IIRC you have to set it to HDMI, press ok, change to HDMI on the TV and press ok again if you see a picture).

Re: No picture through HDMI
Thanks Nilrem, it was the cable. I just happened to have a spare one about my person, fitted it, and the picture has now returned. Thank you for your help.

...but was it the cable itself or had it just come loose? Try re-installing the 'old' cable to find out.

Re: No picture through HDMI
The old cable, supplied by Virgin was definitely dodgy. As I couldn't quite believe this I did reinstall it and, lo and behold, no picture. The new cable only cost me a couple of quid on eBay so I think I might invest in a £20 one from Argos. But I do recall reading that the cheap HDMI cables are as good as the expensive ones.

nothing to do with changing the cable, its the act of unplugging and this seems to reset the HD element in the tv.

Re: No picture through HDMI
You are right Apophis, I plugged the old cable, which I thought was faulty, back in and the picture reappeared. Mystery solved!
