Lost on Virgin next season?

Hi all

I phoned Virgin yesterday to complain about them introducing a £1.00 charge for itemised billing. During the conversation I ended up talking to a manager, so I couldn't resist mentioning the loss of Sky1 and the fact that I couldn't watch the rest of Lost. To my surprise he told me that he had seen an internal memo and that Virgin had won the rights to show Lost from the next season. What do you guys think, is he telling the truth. I thought Sky had it for at least two seasons.

Well.....

1. I doubt that's true/correct
2. I hope that it isn't
3. Although, given my dissapointment at the way this season ended, perhaps I'm not so bothered after all

Not true i don't think, that would have been really big news. They have got the licence for VoD though i believe for Season 1 and 2 and for 3 later this year i believe too?

Re: Lost on Virgin next season?

The annoying thing is that he made a complete story and said that Virgin were starting a new channel and it was there way of fighting back against Sky.

There's been a lot of talk of a new channel, but no evidence as yet, i wouldn't discount it totally though. (Unless of course he meant Virgin Central, which might have Lost Season 3 later on, could well have got it all round his neck if he wasn't up on his media!)

Lost Season 4 is a different kettle though, not sure season 4 bidding rights have even come round yet??

I thought Sky bought the rights to both seasons 3 and 4 (well, for first-run rights at any rate). If that's the case then I don't know when Virgin would be able to show it -- could be a clause in the contract that they can only show it once Sky's run has finished, or if on VoD a different contract may apply. It'd be great news if true, but until anything's formally announced it should be treated with a *lot* of scepticism.

Lost finds its way to Virgin Media
Hit series secured for growing on-demand library

Virgin Media and The Walt Disney Company's Buena Vista International Television (BVITV) have extended their recent UK content agreement to include the award-winning hit series Lost.

Seasons one and two of Lost will be available in August on the company's TV-on-demand service, which lets viewers choose from a huge library of entertainment, with DVD-like control. The third season will arrive later in the year, after its linear broadcast and DVD release.

Ernie Cormier, chief commercial officer of Virgin Media, said: “By combining Disney's content with our on-demand technology, our customers can enjoy watching Lost episodes from seasons one and two at any time that suits.”

The extended agreement with BVITV follows recent content deals with Warner Bros, HBO, Channel 4 and Alliance Atlantis.

Re: Lost on Virgin next season?

They will appear, but Season 3 this year is a push.

Season 4 will definitly be a 2008 VoD offering, by my reckoning.

Re: Lost on Virgin next season?

I got told the same thing by a manager about 3 weeks ago. According to him it's in the bag. A few weeks before that we were told that they were going to try because they had head hunted a guy from whatever company sells it. So you sky heads - keep grinning whilst you can. A few more seasons and they'll probably get the football too...

Re: Lost on Virgin next season?

Well yes they probably have secured the rights, but it is not free! I would like to see a "Virgin 1" only for Virgin TV customers! And then they should buy the rights for The Simpsons,24,Lost, and then other hit TV shows. e.g Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty, they have already got Jerry Springer and Cheaters. But they need to be on demand. I think Virgin didn't want to pay Sky's price for the reason above. But i think they should of made annoucements hours after the loss of Sky. Then maybe they would of kept those 50,000 customers. But then Sky would of bought the rights, i think ther e is a twist. We shall see...
