System Restore
Has anyone else had a problem with the System Restore in XP?
Mine used to work fine but recently each time I try I get a message saying that the restore could not be completed - try a different restore time.
Any help would be appreciated!

Re: System Restore
Sounds like something has corrupted, why do you need to keep restoring? It may be that you have to turn of system restore, reboot and turn it back on to get things working again but you will lose all restore points.

Re: System Restore
This has happened when there has been a piece of software thats become so corrupted its not recoverable with a system restore. Im guessing something either was installed thats caused a crash or some kind of instability. In my experience if the mess cant be cleaned by uninstalling and cleaning up a repair install of windows if you can get away with it is the best course of action
Paul beat me to courruption lol

Re: System Restore
Thanks for these!
The problem started after installing the latest Microsoft update which gave me the 'RTHDCPL.EXE' error message, which has been resolved by the patch.
It was this that made me try to do a restore.

Re: System Restore
System restore is a useful "safety net" for many users that has saved countless hours of frustration. I've lost track of how many people have posted issues, been told System Restore is the quick easy fix, only for them to say..... it's turned off. For experienced/ knowledgable users it's not as important but even experienced users can be caught out.

Re: System Restore
I wouldn't be without system restore, it's helped me on many occasions and that's far more fun than a format.

mines never off
Why hate it ?? it takes space but this can be limited to a small amount or cleaned up simply enough with a couple of clicks its hardly a bad thing and as paul says it can put right mistakes

Whenever I had a problem with my computer, I tried to restore it using System Restore and it used to muck it up even more... Other problems were restore points becoming corrupt and deleted...
I prefer to just have it turned off so it doesn't waste disk space. If I get a problem with my computer I just reinstall it or browse through the registry and program files.

Re: System Restore
System Restore has saved me 2-3 times from reinstalling windows and disk space isn't an issue these days seeing you can buy a 250gig drive for around £45.

Re: System Restore
System restore is very useful.. It is always better to create your own restore point prior to installing anything..especially drivers..
