Re: Sky Channels
Nice post
Although the ntl/vm equipment is free, in as much as you are paying for it in your monthly subs, it should come with a government health warning, the trade off in not paying an upfront fee is hours or days even spent on the phone when the box goes tits up.
The op paints a totally different picture ( no pun intended ) of the weather here in england
I have had no such issues with my sky+ box compared to previous ones from ntl, which were to be honest poorly made, cheap technology.
So the " free " can come with a price, one that far outweighs monetary.

Re: Sky Channels
Please refrain from posting links to sites that may not have legally obtained content.
Cable Forum acknowledges that downloading and similar activities exist, we just don't allow discussion of how to do it. Remember a site itself may be "legal" but the content that is obtained from links on the site may be subject to copyright. If you can show the site is 100% legitimate the links are allowed.

Re: Sky Channels
Well in the 5-6 years I've been with VM (Telewest), I've only had one box go bad on me. I must admit it went bad in a big way, but after a bit of fighting TW sorted it out (see http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/11...oke-my-tv.html )
Any other issues have been down to network problems, not the box itself. So they may be cheap boxes, but I've not had any problems. Plus if you look at the Sky forums, you will see just as many box fails as you do here.
And people who think they are getting a FREE box with Sky need to look at how they get it.
Min 12 months contract in order for you to keep it.
So in other words they cover the cost in the subscriptions
PS: My link was to a fully legal site.

Could you please explain why the fully legal site link I put on here has now been deleted.
The site in question does not do anything other than link to the original owners sites/content. wwitv is a web TV directory that links to the sites/media of the broadcasters themselves.

Re: Sky Channels
yep mine is still an old pace box I did initially get an issue with my other box but the one in my bedroom never played up.
As for my link being deleted I was understood this was a chinese legal state run pptv channel service that anybody can download therefore quite legal run.
So sorry if this has upset the mods but this prog was less damaging than the tvu prog someone posted a few days back which showed english language content did not get deleted. Though I do understand you probably just playing safe.
I do apoligise to the mods if I broke rules.

Re: Sky Channels
Unfortunatly this post is starting to talk about links being deleted by the mods.
So I will just give the mods something to think about.
If the content providers did not want the channels to be viewed by NON subscribers they would PASSWORD protect it for subscribers only
The link I provided for Sky News linked directly to BSKYB servers
I agree with the post made about the WWITV site, they simply link the person to the website the station is on and then load up the media in mediaplayer, this is no different to the user going on the website and clicking the part to load in media player.
Nothing illegal about this, I understand that CF preffers to be safe than sorry, however legally CF would not be liable for any illegalities, but the owner of the 3rd party website (example: television.bg which screen full feature length movies)
YOUTUBE which millions of people link to until recently also showed full films and it was Google and the previous owners who was dealt with by the C&D letters and demands not the people who linked to the site.
with CF permission I would like to re-add the links for people to access
However what is not illegal is to link to the actual site they come from

Like this (advertising) link at the top of the page? I'm all in favour of banning links to illegal sites, but its a bit rich when you see links like this on the same page, which presumably earn the site money!

We cannot stop dodgy links appearing on the Google ads until we know about them.
Once we are aware of there being a dodgy ad, we can them remove it.
Now we're aware of this one, it can be blocked.
