Copying V+ to DVD

Here's a tricky one.

I have connected my V+ to a Toshiba XS34 hard drive/DVD player.

I can record live tv from V+ to the Toshiba HDD using AV1 (but no copied subtitles). So no basic connection issues. HDMI outputs to AV4 for HD content.

When I try to copy recorded content using the V+ extra service 'Copy to DVD/VCR' ( which has no settings at all apart from a basic record) it says it is copying and is copied upon completion. When I then revert to the Toshiba drive: nothing. The same if copying directly to a blank DVD-R disc.

Can anyone explain how to solve this.

To copy recorded content from V+ to a DVD or VHS recorder:

1. Connect the lower SCART output socket of the V+ to the appropriate SCART input of your recording device;
2. If your recording device has the choice, ensure that it is configured to record from the composite video signal on the appropriate SCART input, rather than an RGB signal;
3. Use the V+ menus to "Copy to DVD/VHS": no video signal will be present on the SCART cable until copying has started.

If you previously recorded live TV, then you have your recorder connected to the wrong SCART output of the V+.

Hmm...I think I have to setup you have suggested:

V+ top scart goes to TV
V+ bottom scart goes to DVD player
DVD player set to Video signal

Someone else has suggested "When you use the copy to dvd function it outputs via the av2 scart on the v+.
This way you can watch live tv while backing up your recordings."

I'm confused because my DVD player is AV1.

One last question: I have the HDMI connected, but as there is only BBC HD is it worth defaulting it over scart?

I find 720 wide better for onscreen text than 1080 wide which is a little small.

Will the picture be upscaled? If so how good is this in reality?

HDMI will still be better than SCART, even though there's only one HD channel at the moment.


Also, there's no upscaling via SCART.
