Question Windows Classic Logon

I use the above Logon method as my PC's seems to login and load up faster. However, the username box used to remember my login name, but now the box is blank and i have to type it in everytime i want to login (even after a reboot). I do use CCleaner and ATF Cleaner, to clean the crap (tempory files blah blah blah) before i shut down the computer over night. I just want to get my PC to remember my username as its a pain having to type it in everytime.

Re: Windows Classic Logon

LOL

I have the same problem but the opposite way round. My computer remembers my username but I don't want it to. How do I change it so it comes up as blank?

Re: Windows Classic Logon

You have to edit some Local Secutity Policy, you'll find the editor at "Control Panel" then "Administrative tools". You have to select "Local policies" and then "Security options". Inside the list of policies there is:

- "Interactive Logon: Do not display last user name". Enable that;

Reboot your computer to apply the changes.

Best of Luck

Re: Windows Classic Logon

There is a sort of "hack" for editing security policy on XP Home. It'll be on Google somewhere. You cannot change all the settings as you can in XP Pro, but some you can - not sure if the user logon setting is one of them.

I can't find it via Google or the MS Knowledge Base. Going to trek downstairs to consult my books - it's in one of them...

No success I do remember reading something about copying certain files from XP Pro, but I can't find it anywhere. Will keep it in mind though - may stumble upon it.

That looks like it, madgamer.

It's very annoying when you know something exists but you just cannot find it

I can't actually find it, and the bookmark telling you appears to be dead. I'll have a root around on my HDD see if I can find it.

Edit: got it... attached.
