Re: New Virgin EPG
May look good but how many times will you have click to get programmes that you want to watch. Recently teleport is rarely available and the simple task of switching channels has become a nightmare. I reserve my judgement until the new service comes into force.

Are you sure this is affecting everyone and not just you?
You might want to report a fault?

Skys Now and Next bar is absolutely crap, ntl/tw/virgin have always had the uper hand on the now and next bar imo.
Skys bar is solid so blocks off half the picture, it doesnt allow you to find out any info (synopsis) on whats on without going into that dreaded EPG complete with muzaq!
I has looked pratically the same since 1998, the last time I used it, you still had to navigate into the settings to get the subtitles.
What added functionality do you get on a Sky Now and Nex Bar? Is there something amzing im missing?

to the forum! The standard STB (V Box) does not have a 7 day guide but the V+HD box does.

I find the white one in the pictures a lot easier to read.

The Sky NOW and NEXT bar gives you access to
* What's on NOW and NEXT for your 50 favourite channels
* The facility to switch on/off subtitles and audio description via the help button
* Synopsis for current programme
* The facility to scan up and down the NOW and NEXT info for channels and the respective start times for up to 6 hours (however the synopsis can only be read for the programme being watched - this is something that is being worked on for - a much anticipated/long running request)
* The messages button to quickly check for email/text messages via sky active
* It also displays if the channel being watched is in HD; if it carries Dolby Digital; if it's broadcast in Widescreen; if it has subtitles; if it's got narrative description and wheather you can record the programme without Macrovision scrambling the picture
From what people report here and on Digital Spy, cable boxes are notorious for taking a while to change channel/give synopsis info/acxtion any request from the remote. So there is a world of difference between Sky and Virgin Media's banner - thankfully Sky's version doesn't take for ever to scroll through what's on the channel your watching (limited to up to 6 hours) and every other channel on the satellite platform.

Re: New Virgin EPG
My miniguide has always been fast and contained the right data for nearly 12 hours. Including the ability to press i on the program you want information on including widescreen, rating and synop., instead of just the one you are watching. You can also turn subtitles on/off where avaliable. The new favourites gives you access to more than now and next, for the next 3 hours on the channel.
The functionality is now there, and the looks. It's now just a case of waiting for the current Pace & Samsung boxes to be replaced for something with a better spec - the TVDrive sorts most of the speed issues out.

Re: New Virgin EPG
I must agree with the Captain. The standard of Telewest is far inferior to Sky but it does have good Broadband for those of us not close to a telephone exchange. I am fed up being sent new remotes, being told to replace the batteries (batteries that last eight times longer than others still get the message to replace them after a fortnight - I no longer do), being told that there is nothing wrong with my Pace box, being disappointed that a series I have been watching on Teleport Replay doesn't show the final episode, being unable to know what programmes are on because No Programme Information is available. But as I said I have my Blueyonder and I will reserve my judgement on what Richard Branson has to offer till after the changeover.
