Re: stb info?
card status = your smart card.
IPPV status = Impulse Pay Per View Status.
snr = no idea.
qos = no idea.

Re: stb info?
SNR = Signal to noise ratio.
QOS = Quality of service. For broadband.

Re: stb info?
I'm still waiting for Faults to call me back about my NDE01 error with VOD, and a few missing channels.
I notice that my
Card Status shows: waiting
and my CA IPPV Status shows: UNKNOWN.
SNR: around 31 - 35dB depending which channel I'm on.
Does anybody know if these reading are normal or point to a cause of my problems?
Also, what is the AGC level? When on a channel I can't view (e.g. Bravo) it shows 0, when on another channel it showed 60, and on BBC1 it showed 16777200!
Thanks,
T.

card status, ignor it,it will after a few mins show the status.
your IPPV= unkown, because the stb dont know the card status atm.
your snr is fine
agc, automatic gain control. the stb uses that to prevent picture freeze,( in a short explanation)

Re: stb info?
Thanks for that info.
Looks like I'll just have to wait for Faults Level 2 to call me back. The 4 working days I was told to wait apparantly haven't passed yet...

NDE is a node discovery error. The system tries to work out which VOD modulators you are connected to, so it knows which ones to use to send VOD movies to you on.
Does the card status change from Unknown eventually? If not then that may well be the cause of the NDE error.
As far as AGC goes, the signal levels of the 20 or so Muxes vary. The AGC alters the amount of gain the front end of the demodulator has so the tuner behind it receives a fairly constant signal level no matter what Mux you tune to. I think theres a bug in the calculation of the value displayed so some levels get theses strange massive numbers.

Re: stb info?
Aha, that might be it: As I'm not sure that the card status ever changes from "Unknown". I'll check more tonight. How long should it take? And should it matter what channel you're on when you check? So does it need the card to work out which VOD modulators to connect to? And could the fact that I'm not getting Bravo, Living and Challenge be related to this?
Thanks for all the advice Creative, and sorry for all the questions!

Re: stb info?
No, it shouldn't matter what channel you are using. It should be a matter of seconds. I'd imagine its some security within the STB, it won't do the VOD discovery without a valid smartcard. What model STB is it? Does it say anything within the engineering screens regarding having a valid return path?

Re: stb info?
The box is a PACE 4001-2A
The only thing I saw on those screen mentioning Return Path was:
Return Power: 50dBmV
I'm not at home at the moment, but I noted down all the readings from the engineering screens.
I would have thought it would need the Smarcard just to show any of our channels, but from what you say I'll try reseating/cleaning the smartcard when I get home tonight to see if that changes anything.
Thanks again,
T.

Re: stb info?
One of the menus should tell you what the return path status is (a value from 1 to 5) or at least they used to. If you don't have a status 5 connection you won't get VOD.

Re: stb info?
Ah I think that bit's OK. I have one line saying:
Conn Status: 5-Connected.
I wasn't sure if that referred to the return path, or just a one way connection.

Re: stb info?
TiggerT: there is nothing you can do yourself to fix this. Keep nagging Faults until they send someone out to fix it.
Creative: I've already taken a look at TiggerT's STB. It can't lock onto the mux that includes Bravo, nor the first VOD frequency, which are adjacent in the Guildford area. I suspect noise on the network is taking out those two frequencies.

Re: stb info?
Called them again. I should be getting a call back today or tomorrow. (Not holding my breath)
Just one thing Spiderplant. If it's noise on the network, what can a tech coming to our house do to fix it?
Thanks,
T.
