AVI (camcorder) to DVD software?

I (too) generously offered to copy the in-laws' camcorder tapes to DVDs for them. I thought it would be straightforward, but I can't find a way to do it.

I've already given the camcorder back to them. I have AVI files that I got from the camcorder via firewire using Windows Movie Maker. I set it to the option that gave the largest possible file size - basically, it's a copy of what was on each tape, in original format and saved as a big AVI file.

Does anyone have any recommendations for cheap (preferably free!) software that can take these AVI files and turn them into the files that need to go onto a DVD. I already have Nero if that's of help. I just need to convert the format into the VOB files and whatever else Nero needs.

I tried a trial of some AVI convertor software, but it missed the sound out.

I'm hoping I'm being an idiot, and someone well tell me the really obvious method that I've missed! Thanks.

Use Nero Vision Express to convert the AVI files and then burn the project to DVD.

Thanks for the reply. Is that what they now call Vision 4? Their product range is a bit on the baffling side!

ConvertX2DVD allows you to put more than one segment on a DVD, it's not free but it is idiot proof (well it works for this idiot).

Re: AVI (camcorder) to DVD software?

Many thanks for all the replies. Nero looks like it does the job. I tried it last night, but it was going to take over an hour, so I stopped it. I'll kick it off again tonight.

I didn't know Nero could do all this - my version is a couple of years old.

And the 30 day free evaluation will do the job for me.

Thanks

Re: AVI (camcorder) to DVD software?

Super, thanks. All worked brilliantly.

It's just a shame that Nero has taken over my PC! I have a Nero search box next to the clock, all media files have been associated with Nero. I don't remember seeing an option for this. Perhaps I was in Next, Next, Next button mode when installing it.

Re: AVI (camcorder) to DVD software?

Yeah, the only downside is Nero Scout. Here's a link of how to remove it: Disable Nero Scout
