Unhappy so what now ... ?

heya chaps, i've been on NTL since dialup and usually fix my own probs, but now im writing for a mate who i've been trying to fix up

he had broadband installed last week ... engineer came and hooked all the cables up, powered the modem on and left ... i went around later than evening to make sure it was all up and running and the modem was just struggling to connect to NTL ... the RDY light was just constantly flashing no matter what i did ... i couldnt register him on broadband until the modem actually worked lol ... so i buzzed up the tech support knowing it would be a deli-delight ... after a few mins of testing she said she'd have to get an engineer out to swap the modem, and was told an engineer would call me within 24 hrs to arrange a time

3 days later and engineer came around out of the blue whilst i was at work, had a look and told my mate it was a problem with a cable around the back of the pc, now my mate aint got a clue what he was on about so just left him be ... so i went around to find nothing had changed, so i called tech support BACK again and explained what had happened, and they said they would have to get an engineer to call me back to arrange another visit ...

i cant get off work to make sure i'm around his house when the NTL guy pops out to listen to his rabble ...

my question is, would any of the ntl "associates" on here be willing to have a quick look into whats up ... it's been in for a week now and hasnt been able to use it once yet ... not the best of starts for him, especially when i told him to go with NTL lol

oh, and its costing a fortune to ring as he doesnt have an NTL landline, just a mob :P

thanks
james

Re: so what now ... ?

If the lights are flashing and not locking then it's nothing to do with the cables to the PC but a lot to do with the cable to the modem or the signal going into the modem. The engineers should not be leaving before they show that the connection is working.

Re: so what now ... ?

If the RDY light is flashing, it's a problem with the ntl cable (the one that screws into the modem). You'll need another engineer, and tell your mate to not let the engineer leave until the SYNC and RDY (or Ready) lights are SOLID!

Whereabouts in the country are you?

EDIT: Dammit, beaten to it!
