Lost ntl TV signal
Hi
I've lost my ntl signal after moving my TV around and switching everything off earlier today ... I just get the rather rude message Nit on the set top box... it also flashed up er12 and er11.
Any ideas?
Of course, it being Saturday there's no "customer" support.
Thanks
Ken

Re: Lost ntl TV signal
Switch the STB off at the power. Carefully remove and replace the cable connection, ensuring this is fully screwed home, and the wires in the cable end are straight (especially the little centre one) so it gets fully seated into the STB sockets. Remove the card, wipe on clean dry cloth, replace. Haveing been off for say 10 minutes, power up.
If it still don't work faults should be open tommorrow, late morning. Call them.
In moving stuff around, you didn't change the actual cable length / fitting did you?

Re: Lost ntl TV signal
How long was the box unplugged? Have you checked the cable is correctly connected since you say that you moved stuff around? Have you tried powering it off, remove your smartcard, wipe it gently with a lint free cloth and re-insert the card, turn box back on?
Edit: Bah Humbug, typed too slowly

Re: Lost ntl TV signal
Thanks guys - I didn't do anything to the cable except unscrew it and then screw it back in.
I did all the card/switch-off/wiping stuff to no effect. It now has the number zero 0 on the screen, but otherwise no change.
I managed to get through to customer support this morning after a half-hour wait and an engineer is coming out on... Thursday evening.
Obviously I've asked for a rebate on my subscription (and also for my phone call which was eventually about 50minutes at 5p a minute). The cap at the other end noted it on my file... and said I would have to call back later.

Re: Lost ntl TV signal
And your then fine for ntl to charge you if you damaged the coax or the f connector? Sorry, but why should they credit you for your phone call?

Simple really, customer support is included in the subscription I pay.
I have no problem paying phone charges for what should be a short call, especially if I'm actually talking or listening to customer support.
It's another matter entirely when I have to spend 30 minutes hanging on listening to awful music and the irritating card/switch-off/wiping stuff reminders.
In effect, I'd be paying twice - once for the subscription and then for the phone call - subsidising what is a bad service. Our subscriptions should be enough to cover the cost of customer support. If ntl is allowed to make excessive amounts of money from the over-long telephone call then there's no imperative for it to improve the service by employing more staff to reduce the wait.

Re: Lost ntl TV signal
Kenseaton,
cant see where you are, but in the Ashford, KENT region we have had an outage since Wednesday/Thjursday nonring. First off it was just no broadband, then last night the TV also went with the exact same symptoms you describe.
At midday on Friday I was told the broadband woul dbe back in 3 hours, FRiday night I was told it would be back in the morning. Midday Saturday I was told it would be back by 2 p.m. Sunday - guess what ? no TV , no broadband.
Rather than get stressed out with a woefullly useless, yet better than it was before customer services line, I would suggest getting as much information on Sky and other service providers in your area. NTL clearly are not in a posiiton tp provide a reliable service; nor provide timely repairs.
We shoud stop taking this lyning down and do some thing positive like dumping NTL in favour of another rovider. They be just as useless, but it gets the message accross to NTL that unless they resolve their issues of poor reliability and ineffective repairs they will lose their customer base to the Murdoch empire.

Re: Lost ntl TV signal
I'm in Glasgow and broadband is, touch wood, fine.
I see what you're saying and I've had a wee look at the options... but I have nasty memories of BT and all their pricing shenanigans. I've still to price the other TV/broadband scenarios and remember to include the BT bill every month.
