Pirates of the Carribean - Dead Mans Chest
I quite liked it but didn't think it was as good as the first. 6/10.

			X Men 3 - The last stand. 1/10.
Absolute s...manure. It was just like a patchwork of set-pieces, which weren't that good anyway. I was even wanting the bad guys to win, as a result of what little story there was. Phoenix - what was the point to writing that character in? She did nothing really, apart from make large fountains.

A major let down after X Men 2...

PotC Dead Man's Chest - enjoyed it, can't wait for the next one; 7/10
MI3 - thought it actually had more depth than the previous ones, its the usual leave your brain at the door action but still quite well done; 6/10

Stormbreaker - really enjoyed this, think of bond but with a 14 year old instead, but not "made for children" patronising; 7/10

			The Omen (remake)
Why did they bother...From what i can remember of the original, it's basically the same film apart from one scene near the end.

If you're gonna remake a film you don't just copy the original exactly. It needs to have the same basic outline but with new direction.

Watch the original film in this case. It's a lot scarier. The new Damien just can't pull off the evilness of the original.

I was really looking forward to seeing this and it started out well then just lost all momentum and the ending was really poo, big disappointment.

 | I know what you mean about the ending, but the suspense value was fairly good. That's the reason I didn't mark it down as much as you did. You're a harsh critic Jules. |

Casino Royale - the current one, not that 1960s spoof thing.
Well worth the cinema ticket. A reinvention of the Bond genre. The reliance on far fetched gadgets has gone. Only one decent chase scene, and that was entirely on foot albeit through a building site with some rather death defying leaps. The film seemed to have a gritty edge to it, in most cases, relying on the actors rather than apparent computer effects. Might have been just a tad long though, I was certainly wondering when we'd reach the end for the last 20 minutes or so.

			As above - Casino Royale.
9/10 - perhaps the poker game went on a bit too long; other than that, very gritty and extremely enjoyable.

Great opening sequence, and for once, not based on special effects.
