Question NTL HD Problems

Just got TV Drive installed yesterday. Box running a bit slow at times but not completely surprising as its in the early stages. Try to set up HD on my LG "32 HD ready LCD Model RZ/32LZ55 and figure out there are actually no hdmi connections on it even though the salesman who sold it says the set was "foolproof for the next ten years" . Only DVI. so purchased a HDMI to DVI cable for 35 gbp and placed from the HDMI connection in the back of the tv drive to the DVI connection in the tv. Also bought an RGB cable(another 30 gbp) and put that to the component sockets at the back of the tv drive but still not getting a true HD picture. Guy at the shop seems to think we SHOULD get one with the HDMI to DVI but any help would be appreciated. Ty

Re: NTL HD Problems

yeah thats the one. In the HDMI slot I have the HDMI to DVI and in the HDTV sockets I have the RGB leads. Also a Pure AV scart in the TV scart socket for brighter colouring etc.

Daft question, but have you tried changing the settings on the TVdrive to enable the HD ouputs. Also make sure you try 1080i as well as 720p as some early screens don't support 720p @ 50 Hz.

Re: NTL HD Problems

Have you changed the settings on the TVDrive to output HD through either HD or Component?

Re: NTL HD Problems

yeah have changed the settings to hd component as we don't have hdmi connections on back of tv. And tried both 720 and 1080 but still not getting HD signal. Also change it to RGB as have the leads in the tv to the back of the tv drive. Although that does make the picture much clearer it is still not HD. Obviously would be much easier having a set with the hdmi connections at the back but we also thought it was possible to use a component to recieve it.

Re: NTL HD Problems

yeah its DVI-I (With HDCP) at the back and at the side its Component (Supporting SD, Progressive Scan & HD) with an xd engine so it looks like it should be supporting hd.

Re: NTL HD Problems

I'll apologise before I ask this!

I assume you are checking your PQ on channel 108 (BBC HD Preview)?

Re: NTL HD Problems

is this not because of the hdmi-dvi cable hdmi exists as protection i.e. the same as why you cannot record from VOD meaning that the software will not allow the signal out of the hdmi as it doesn't have the right return signal

Re: NTL HD Problems

yeah been checking 108 to clarfiy and also tried to access the HD on demand content but doent even let us do that as it comes up with message saying unable to view HD. It could be something to do with the copy protection but I thought with the HDMI to DVI cable we would still be able to get the signal.

Well acording to Mark Horley, TVdrive does support HD over DVI and component.

Here is the link http://lifestyle.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=5670

10th Question down

HEXUS: Do your TVDrive boxes support HD format over DVI and component connections?

MH: Yes.

Re: NTL HD Problems

Eventually got the tv switched over to HDMI so thanks for all the suggestions they were very helpful. The only problem now is that there is no audio output now the HD is up and running. The only way to hear anything is by changing it back to normal widescreen and watching it without the HD even though there is only one channel BBC at the moment. Have to say that the picture is pretty phenomenal but obviously need the volume too. Bought a Left Right cable to insert into the TV Drive from the side ports on the tv but still no audio whenh HDMI running. Hopefully someone may have some idea what is needed cheers

Re: NTL HD Problems

I take it you've tried rebooting the box? I had no sound through HDMI and a reboot fixed it.

Re: NTL HD Problems

He's using a HDMI to DVI converter, DVI does not carry audio.
Lostbhoy can you use the digital optical out connector to an amp or suchlike?
