Anyone use eSata
If where how do you power the drive? My mobo has it its just a connector for an external serial ata cable from what I can see but there is nowhere on the IO plate to power the drive.
When sata first come out boards used to come with adapters which could turn 2 sata ports internally to external and this adapter had a standard male molex adapter attached and came with female to female molex cable to power the drive (this was before drives had the new power fitting but can be adapted anyway) Ive found enclosures that power the drive and give esata connectivity is this the only way without routing a cable out the back of the case

Re: Anyone use eSata
Does it take the power from the one connector or is there an external power adapter??

Re: Anyone use eSata
Dunno mate I've only once ever seen a sata drive in the flesh be4 LOL. (when I helped build someone's pc) cant remember much about it but I do remember the connectors being flimsy.
Interested in what you can find out though as I'd like/HAVE to do this soon.

Re: Anyone use eSata
I read the title as "ESanta" and thought it sounded interesting. Tiredness huh
Methinks you'll need an external power source - the black chunky plug type.

Think if im gonna bother ill link some molex extensions though a pci slot in the case.Ive used old hard drive cradles out of cases for external drives in the past dont think I want to spend cash on a enclosure

Re: Anyone use eSata
Maplin might have a kit where you can build one yourself - two bent paperclips and a couple of resistors later, and hey presto. That sort of thing. Not necessarily the enclosure but a means to convert AC to DC, lower the voltage, and provide a Molex connector.
Just a thought

Yeah its cool if you want to buy an enclosure or route cables but it would be better if you could just use the drives
now your edited link looks interesting but this is very similar to what they used to provide a couple of years ago routing internal to external. esata is a connector on the mobo that sits on the IO and is accessable from the back of the case with no means to power a drive.
attached picture of what they used to give ya

Oh zing this is the GORGEOUS also note the esata connector along with power

Thermaltake Mozart TX takes 2 mobos ! so you can run 2 systems
Secondary board is mini-itx but you can get conroe mini-itx boards so no worries.
