Don't you just love how out of date college IT courses are? The only reason for anyone to use ISDN anymore is if they are too far away from the exchange to get ASDL, but I'm guessing you're being taught that it is a "fast internet connection" (its not, its slow and expensive compared to ADSL or Cable)

Re: Telewest prices

Each ISDN line can carry data at 64Kbps. Not sure about the pricing any more, but when we had an ISDN line at home it cost £99 to install. I highly doubt your school would go paying for hundreds of them (yes, that is how much bandwidth schools need nowadays) when they could easily get an Internet service from RM or something.

I'm not sure about your area, but most of the schools in this city with IFL Internet (RM's Internet product) now have it provided over Telewest's network rather than BT's and it's delivered by direct optical fibre, at speeds around 10 Megabits per second (up and down).

My college has Internet piped to it by optical fibre from the University of Plymouth, the total bandwidth we get is about 300Mbps (we also have a redundant microwave link to the UoP, just in case the cable breaks or fails).

Re: Telewest prices

I have already asked customer services, and there are no planned upgrades or prices going down in the near future. If this does change then it won't be until the New Year.

This could tie in with the company name change on 14-Feb-2007.

Re: Telewest prices

You know how Telewest are with "coming soon" products. Remember when they first announced 10Mbit, it took them almost a YEAR to roll it out over the whole country.
