Re: InternExplorer 7 windows update

Another point of view
I use IE6 by the way, why?, cos I can't be arsed to use FF etc
CNET editors' review
Very good
7.0out of 10
The good: IE 7 includes built-in tabbed browsing; antiphishing technology; an RSS reader; and a redesigned Favorites Center.

The bad: IE 7 is limited to Windows XP SP2 users only; installation requires reboot; reuses old IE 6 code and doesn't yet comply with current Web standards; doesn't match all the features found in Firefox or Opera; carries a Microsoft legacy of not patching its IE flaws quickly enough.

The bottom line: IE 7 was Microsoft's one chance to leapfrog ahead of the competition, but the company has only barely caught sight of the current front-runners. For more features and greater security, switch to Mozilla Firefox.

Not just this, but i've read other news stories which says simular things.
Have you actually read that article? it basicly says that while there where 25 new exploits discovered (of wich 18 where serious) that all but three have been addressed and patched. Compared to the 13 found in IE 19 of wich remain unaddressed and unpatched (indicating there are flaws in IE that have been around a lot longer than a year).
So basicly that article states that while more flaws where found in FF, due to mozilla it remains far more secure than IE, it doesnt really back up your point.

Also, considdering the fact that FF has only really become widespread in the last 24-18 months I dont think its really supprising that so many bugs have been found in the last 12 months.

Re: InternExplorer 7 windows update

I use FireFox too but I made the mistake of letting Windows Update upgrade to IE7 to be on the safe side. Big mistake... after the obligatory reboot I lost all networking - Wireless, Ethernet and Bluetooth. None of them could aquire an IP address. System restore didn't help. In the end I had to reinstall winsock using the instructions here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811259

(Funnilly(?) enough you have to use IE to see all of that page - it's truncated in FireFox!)

I'm just posting this in case anyone else has the same problem.

Re: InternExplorer 7 windows update

I use Firefox 2.0

(& IE 6 for Windows Update etc.)

I've set Windows Update & Auto Updates to not select IE7.

Re: InternExplorer 7 windows update

I'm quite happy to allow both on my PC.My son uses IE and thus far has no complaints. My only complaint is the inbuilt constant battle for supremacy between the two on the same PC...

I hate software that DOESN'T know it's place and tries to boss me about.

Re: InternExplorer 7 windows update

Installed IE7 a while back, and had no problems with it at all.
