NTL Netguard - file & printer sharing

Sorry is this has been covered elsewhere but my search didn't find ant answers.

I have Netguard total on 3 machine on a home network. If I use the Netguard firewall NO machine can see the home network or file/ printer share, although they can all connect thought the wireless router to the internet

This is not a major problem as I can disable the Netguard firewall and use Windows firewall instead. Then all machines can see each other , tranfer files and use the networked printer.

There must be somewhere within Netguard options to allow file and printer sharing, but I'm yet to find it.

I think Netguard is excellent for a freebie, but I would be very disappointed if I had, had to pay for it and then couldn't use the firewall.

Re: NTL Netguard - file & printer sharing

Why use a software firewall if youve got a router?

A router's firewall is fine, but won't notify you if you have a trojan on your machine that is accessing the network. A software firewall will.

Re: NTL Netguard - file & printer sharing

I cannot currently share printers and netguard is blocking the sharing. Can someone tell me where the sharing option is as I'm starting to pull hairs out!!

Re: NTL Netguard - file & printer sharing

I have tried NTL Netguard and had the same problem, and i cant find the sharing option either, so i disabled the netguard firewall and used kerio firewall instead and then file/print sharing worked

Further to my orignal request for info on how to do this, I have had confirmed from NTL that it is not possible to file and printer share using the NTL firewall in NTL netguard.

If you disable the netguard fire wall and use the windows firewall or a freebie like Zone Alarm you will be ok.

Thuis is a bad slip up on behalf of NTL as the rest of Netguard is a very usable program for virus and privacy and pop up blocking. I get it free with my service but would be most upset if I had had to pay for it.

Netguard say they may introduce an option to allow file and printer sharing in a later version. I hope so!!

Re: NTL Netguard - file & printer sharing

Is there not an option in the settings somewhere, where you can add the private addresses of the networked machines into a trusted zone ? I know that I had to add my address into zone alarms trusted zone on the other machine on my network, to get file sharing working.

Nope, netguard is unable to do what you want, best bet is uninstall it and use something else.
