VOIP from NTL

Hi,

Does anyone know if NTL will be setting up a VOIP service for NTL customers?

Thanks

Re: VOIP from NTL

TBH I'm not sure NTL: TW has any plans to bring in a VOIP service. The problem is that a fair chunk of their revenue is from the phone line they bundle in so they'd be volunteering to lose a big chunk of revenue.

I reckon to make the money back they'd shift from speed based broadband packages to capacity based. i.e. Everyone gets the same speed but you pay for what do download/upload. At which point I'm completely screwed - I can't go to ADSL because I live on the boundary between two exchanges so am guaranteed nothing more than a ****e signal.

Re: VOIP from NTL

From what I've seen, BTs VOIP offering is hideous.

At an additional fee, they give you a second number (0506 I think) which then costs everybody else more money to call you on than before. There is no integration between the two lines and I've not heard anything good about the ATA they supply.

Yes BT provide VOIP, but not in a very streamlined way and in such a way that it's likely to make them more money from other peoples calls to you.
