TPS? mobile question?

Can i sign my mobile number up to the TPS service?

I keep getting calls from some communications company or the other offering me a new phone blah blah (i say no and hangup at that point) for 1 im still in contract

if i want to renew it and get a new phone i only deal with the network directly rather than risk giving my details over to some company ive never even heard of.

if i sign up to the TPS will they stop calling me.

first time i just said id already renewed my contract with the network and they stopped bothering me for a while but as i come out of my commitment in a couple of months time they seem to keep calling me again

Re: TPS? mobile question?

I asked Orange about this as I'd been getting a few calls/texts and they told me that a lot of the companies who call do random dialling and target specific networks by the fact that each network has a set of dialling codes it uses.

This seemed like a resonable explanation to me, so you may find it doesn't help although I guess it can't hurt

What annoys me the most is when they claim to have been endorsed by my network. The last time that happened I asked them to tell me my name or any other personal information and the guy didn't know what to say.

EDIT:
The TPS website has this to say:
Quote:
The Telephone Preference Service can accept the registration of mobile telephone numbers, however it is important to note that this will prevent the receipt of live marketing voice calls but not SMS (text) messages. This is because under the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2004 it is unlawful to send an unsolicited sales and marketing text message. Telemarketing companies who send SMS messages need your prior permission. There is no obligation therefore for companies sending SMS messages to people who have agreed to receive them, to screen against the TPS file. If you wish to stop receiving SMS marketing messages, please send an 'opt-out' request to the company involved. The Information Commissioners Office (ICO) is responsible for the enforcement of these regulations.

Re: TPS? mobile question?

yes I'm with TPS it does stop the calls. I did get a week of calls from a company and when I told them I was going to complain to the TPS the calls stopped but the company said to me they were excempt because their calls weren't sales calls but 'surveys'.

Re: TPS? mobile question?

Whoopsie i have a horrible feeling i registered my work mobile with tps on accident

(im always getting the numbers mixed up for some reason)

I emailed them to let them know as the work mobile is not a residential number so i guess i shouldn't have it in there as one!
