FTP upload timeouts, Leeds

Hi,
Been trying to upload jpegs to my ntl web space for about a week now, when I drag and drop using windows explorer, the copying window appears then the connection drops. I've managed to get about 5 files upload in a week!
Been on the phone to NTL and there was an FTP server problem, which should be fixed now.

Any ideas?

Welcome to the site,

Try using an FTP client see if it makes any difference, SmartFTP is a good one, easy to use (and its free).

are they very large files that you are trying to upload?

Also, try running a test on your upstream by going to www.pcpitstop.com chosing the internet connection tests and then upstream...

When you are trying to upload, make sure that you disable any firewall software that you are using just to eliminate this as a cause of your problems.

Re: FTP upload timeouts, Leeds

Thanks for the tips.

The files I'm uploading are 200k max.
I've tried smartftp and I'm still getting errors. I still need to become familiar with this program. Looks far more comprehensive and usefull than windows.

My upload speed varies between tests from 70 to 120K. (I have 300k broadband).

Thanks again for your help.

Daz.

Unfortunately, it doesn't mean much to me.

Re: FTP upload timeouts, Leeds

I think your problem is here:

A non-blocking socket operation could not be completed immediately.

451 Transfer aborted. Insufficient memory or file locked.

Some sort of problem creating or using a socket - could be permission related or something nasty to do with networking. Event logs reveal anything? Does the software you use support logging?
