question about bluetooth
Want to get a bluetooth headset for my Nokia. Do you just buy them and turn them on? or have I got to do/get something else to activate the thing?
Sorry if it's a dumb ass question.

Re: question about bluetooth
Don't know about Nokia phones but the Motorola Bluetooth headset only required you to turn on Bluetooh on the phone, I suspect there'll be instructions with whatever one you buy.

You will have to 'pair' or 'bond' them in some cases. There should be instructions with your headset
In my case I had to use a preset pin number to make them work with each other.

I should hope so too, my phone started pinging and asking if I wanted to add 'derek' to my list of recognised devices last night while I was sat at traffic lights waiting to get onto the M1. Very distracting it was too. My phone received the file 'derek' was sending even though I chose not to add his phone to my list of recognised devices ... it tried to save in my address book so I assume it was his v-card and that he was trying to send it to someone else in his own car. I had no idea bluetooth could be so intrusive. For that reason, I'd say it's likely you would have to do some sort of bonding exercise, or else there would be too much of a risk of people getting crossed connections on their headsets.

There should be a setting that makes your phone ASK before recieving a file.
edit... come to think of it - if you've already got your devices set up with the phone you should be able to turn of 'discoverable' mode - or whatever your phone calls it.... Then no-on else can see your phone and send stuff to it
Just a couple of ideas.

Re: question about bluetooth
Could have been trying to 'bluejack' you! If you have an IPAQ (or similar) with bluetooth you can search for devices in range that are advertising themselves, and then you can send phonebook entries.
Unless you need to connect to new device, you should set your phone to 'Hidden'. Then you won't get disturbed!

You can do it with nokias as well, we sit in lectures at uni and search for devices that are available to send "interesting" pictures to, it is quite amusing watching peoples reactions when they see them
taking photos of people and them sending them to them is fun as well

Re: question about bluetooth
TBH I leave Bluetooth on because I thought it would be fun to get random rubbish from strangers. I just didn't expect to get my first unexpected message while driving my car! Seeing as it was so distracting I think I will now switch it off unless I actually need it for something.
