dead slow download rates

hiya

i have a 150k bb connex.

am currently downloading a 1.7Mb file.

I have a transfer rate of only 451b/s

It says that it is expecting to take another 35 mins to download this file.

this is obviously not right.

any ideas what is going on?

now I am losing my pateince with it.

At 11:55 when I started my download it said that it would take 15 mins. Then it said 35 mins at 12:05. At 12:25 it said 30 mins. Just checked on it again and it nows says 60 mins. My transfer rate is at 250 bytes/sec.

Just done another speed test and got

Mon, 28 Jul 2003 23:58:00 UTC
1st 128K took 17410 ms = 7529 Bytes/sec = approx 63 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 18890 ms = 6939 Bytes/sec = approx 58 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 19170 ms = 6837 Bytes/sec = approx 57 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 19110 ms = 6859 Bytes/sec = approx 57 kbits/sec

Without knowing what uBR you are on, what your current IP is, what your MAC is, or any 2 of the above it's pretty much impossible to offer any insights.

The download rate is well below par, it's unlikely though that a download running as low as 350 bytes/s is the fault of ntl.

Would also suggest that it's a fault fairly specific to you going by the lack of other people on here posting + complaining about the issue.

[EDIT] Removed a few extra bits

If you have download speeds in the 60's, I would check a few things first, before phoning ntl.

If you have an Ambit modem (ntl:home 100/120), you can check which service your modem is configured for, by going here:-

http://192.168.100.1
(password & username = root)

Clicking on 'Operation Configuration' will show you which service you are on, under 'Maximum downstream Data Rate'.

Then I would check that windows is set up properly for your BB speed by going here:-

http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks

and running Tweak Tester II to see if your RWIN is set correctly. If not, download DrTCP from the same site & set RWIN to a value it recommends.
