Digital to analogue conversion?

Is it possible via software so that i can feed my TV card via my STB? I'm not asking for any dubious reason, i just want to watch my subscribed channels through my PC without the need to order another STB.

This is easy if you have a TV tuner card in your PC. Simply connect the RF output of the STB to the aerial input of your card, tune in and away you go. Bear in mind that the STB can only decode one chanel at a time so, on the PC, you will be forced to watch the same programme as is on your main TV.

It would be possible to get a slightly better picture by using the composite video output of the STB but this is getting a bit more complicated.

Thanks for that but we don't have an external aerial so RF isn't the solution. I was told at work that if i split my feed so that it connects RF in then i can get all the freeview channels + whatever the STB is viewing. But i've also been told that this can cause "noise" over the network that could affect my broadband? Is there an official solution to this from NTL?

You don't need an external aerial for this. The STB decodes the digital signal and outputs it on both the scarts and, in a format similar to an ordinary terrestrial analogue signal, on the RF output. All you need to do is connect a TV (or and TV card in a PC) to it and away you go. The TV (or card) stays tuned to the same channel all the time - you have to switch between channels on your STB.

If you had an external aerial then you would be able to combine the signal from this with the output of the STB so that you could tune into any of the terrestrial channels OR the output of the STB. This allows you to watch different channels on the main and remote sets - provided that only one channel is not free-to-air.

If you have one of the old STBs with something called an analogue pass-through then you don't even need an external aerial. All the signals are supplied down the same NTL cable.
