Re: [merged] NTL & BitTorrent
Loaded ABC, chugging away nicely....
What is the upload limit on the 750 kb/s service via STB?
How generous could I be with a single torrent running before it all falls apart again?

Try & keep your BT client's upload limit to no more than half of your actual upload speed.

Correct.
300k service - 64k upload
750k service - 128k upload
1.5mb service - 256k upload
EDIT:
@ lozzer -
Make sure you limit the bit torrent client's upload speed.
It also may be worth trying dirrerent ports than the "normal" torrent port range. Some trackers etc will actually block the normal torrent ports, & suggest others instead. e.g. I've seen some recommend 49152 & above.

Re: [merged] NTL & BitTorrent
Help! :o
I've been using Azureus for a while now on my Windows XP SP2 machine, and its been fine, up until now. Now, when I try to download any torrent, I get a IO Error.
I've already allowed the XP firewall to accept incoming connections to Azureus, and I've run through the Azureus's config wizard to make sure it can accept incoming connections. Only last weekend I could download torrents, now it doesn't wanna know.
Any ideas? Anyone? Please?

Have you altered any settings recently? Are you on Broadband? What speed is it? Have you tried adjusting your Firewall settings?

Re: [merged] NTL & BitTorrent
I'm on NTL Broadband (750K). I was already allowing Azureus to drill through the firewall, and I've now actually added it to XP's Firewall Exceptions list.
Heck, even with the firewall turned off, I still can't download any torrents - I just get this 'IO Error' in Azureus. I can ping the IP address of the Bittorrent tracker sucessfully, so the tracker server appears to be online.
Apart from that, no - no settings changed - its been fine up until today. Only last weekend I was able to download torrents, and the only software I've installed since then has been new virus definations for Norton AntiVirus.

Have you tried:
1) Uninstalling Azureus
2) Deleting the program directory form the C drive
3) Rebooting the PC
4) Reinstalling Azureus
5) Rebooting PC (Again)
Then try again with the downloading.

Hi Wayne, tried all that - still can't download anything. I even went through the Azureus guide to do a clean re-install - still can't download anything.
This is odd - its not as if there's anyone living with me, who could dick around with my PC while I was at work.

Over 40 Gigs worth
I've been reading up on this IOError on various Bittorrent sites, they all give the same answer, which is this:
" (IOError - [Errno13] Permission denied)
Description:
Sometime bit torrent still runs in the background, and if you start more than one GUI (the same torrent) it will give you permission denied, go to Task manager and close down all bt-gui processes."
....but I only have one Azureus process running in Task Manager, and I've attempted to download different torrents today. The sites also recommend re-starting my PC - been there, done that several times today.

Are you running it on XP?
I tried using Azureus on my old Windows 98 machine, I couldn't get it to work, even after installing the version of Java which Azureus requires.

Re: [merged] NTL & BitTorrent
Son of a bitch!!!!!
Up until now, I always done a right-click and 'Copy Shortcut' to get the address of the torrent file. BUT - SuprNova now checks for referrers when you download torrents from there - so, now, you have to click on the torrent file - that will fire up your BT client and your PC will enter downloading heaven.
Thanks to everyone for their help.
