[Merged] ITV3.

I've read a number of threads that indicate that there isn't much room for new channels (I don't know how many channels NTL can do ). If ITV launches a new channel(see link below) would we get it, or would it simply not fit.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertain...io/3832477.stm

I'm new to posting threads, but this forum has always answered my questions before i've asked them.

Re: ITV3 - Would we get it?

Hey Chris,

Apparently it's going to "Evolve" from Granada plus, which probably means it'll replace it - meaning there's room on the network for it.

It'll be on freeview as well, so should be mixed in with the base pack. that's "Should" not "Will" - i'm no authorty!

EDIT: More info in this thread

Re: ITV3 - Would we get it?

The real question should be, would you want it? I find ITV2 to be the biggest waste of space in my channel line-up.

But to answer your question, I would imagine ITV3, because of being an ITV channel that will be heavily promoted on basic analogue terrestrial ITV1, will have to be carried on all digital platforms including NTL.

Will it be on FreeView though? I thought there was no more room on that platform...

I think most of the gaps have now been filled with the TopUp TV channels.

Re: ITV3 - Would we get it?

Thanks for the replys, so i guess it will probibly be on ntl and freeview then. As for whether it will be worth watching is another matter. I'm not even sure if i'll still have NTL at that point due the to the competition of freeview versus NTL's Base pack, after all the interactive is better and the some freeview now come with a digital recorder built in and better sound options.

anyway thanks.

When top-up TV started it completely screwed my box - and removed ALL my bbc channels....

It was sorted via a box software update a week later - but I hope the same thing doesn't happen if they add ITV3 to freeview.

Aah. 'Coming soon' then. I've had ntl digital for three years now, and BBCi has only just, in the last couple of weeks, begun to look as good on ntl as it always has on the other platforms. As for the other channels ... still no interactive at all on most of them.

So ntl is better because, for two weeks out of the entire year, you have a choice of three tennis courts to watch that you can't get with Freeview? Sorry, that just doesn't stack up at all. So far as I'm concerned, 'interactive' is the single most disappointing thing about the so-called digital revolution. But somehow I suspect I would be a lot less cynical about it if I had been using any digital platform other than ntl.

Exactly- now that Langley has CR3 we will now get equal treatment. The 'i' services are rolling out almost weekly!

And Euro 2004, the Olympics to come, BBC News 24 6 screens and the others?

Cynical is an understatement

Almost as if nothing was ever wrong... thankfully I have a slightly longer memory.

The BBC has a public service obligation to treat all the delivery platforms equally, as far as possible. Remove that obligation and leave cold, hard business to decide what level of support to give the various platforms, and all of a sudden nobody's interested in NTL. I wonder why. Actually I know why, I met a couple of people from Endemol a year or so ago and got talking about interactive TV. Neither of them could utter the word 'liberate' without sneering.
