Any foray into the world of relationships can be difficult but as long as you maintain an open mind as to possible partners you will find the right one for you. i do understand what your saying, im not wanting to meet a lass 's**g her and thats it, thats not me, conpanionship is what i require, if something becomes of it then so be it.

im trying to get out more, but its difficult, yep im lonely as in i have very few physical freinds left, the ones i had in a near vicinity i 'brushed off'

I do think you are right Kronas about the whole image thing. People do seem to go for the guys that are model material and if you dont look nice, then you are cast off the list straight away.
You cant help the way you are born and how you look and I find it a shame that people can not see into personality more.
I'm not the best looking of guys so whenever I'm dancing in a club I see all the hotter guys get the girls which is really dissapointing.
I'm 22 and not in a relationship right now and sometimes I wonder if my time for true love will EVER come at all.
Its depressing. I guess right now I'm just blcking that out at the moment as I'm concentrating on my degree.

Basically, a few points I wanna say:

1. Try out Love@Lycos. A friend of mine found a girl on there and they have been going a long time now. When my emmigration is sorted, and if i'm going to remain here, then it is the first place i'd choose.

2. Don't think you are too ugly. Noone is. How you act speaks far more. I know where you are coming from though, because I used to think the same way. But my older brother, is a little big bigger than me, or the same size. He certainly isn't an oil painting, but he doesn't do bad for women, I must say. Looking at him smashes the myth in my head, that I can't get women because i'm too fat. I now think it's my character. I'm not outgoing enough. He is VERY outgoing (way past the point of brash even) but it seems to work. I know your very shy, but like Debsy says, try and work at that, and over time you'll get better. As she said again, do some volenteer work. Spend more time around people. Try saying different things and see how people react. If you always say something wrong, you can always pull out and try something else. And anyway, girls love someone with a social conscience. What helped for me (besides going away to university), was bar work. People always want to be friendly with barstaff, so it is only half the work, but once your interracting with people just try different things and be a little more outgoing. It's hard, I know cuz i've been there, (still there most of my friends still say i'm far too shy), but i've also come a long way too.

3. Don't try too hard (or at all?) Like Debsy said (again?

) People tend to find partners when they least expect it. When I met my last girlfriend, I had totally given up on the idea of dating someone, and thought i'd take a break. Strangely enough she made her feelings clear and I had pulled. Maybe women can pick up those feelings.I must admit, if I was a woman, and I thought a guy was being nice to me just so he could get in my knickers, i'd probably keep him at arms length. So don't go overboard and lay it on too thick.

And good luck, don't give up hope mate.

Just a suggestion...

...let go of your keyboard and go out and meet people. Good friends of ours met at a Scuba diving club. Others met on the same Open University weekend and our mountaineering club has been responsible for quite a few couples joining the knot. Forget trying to meet a woman, just persue your interests and nature may well take its own course.

Good advice. The thing about love is that it happens when you least expect it - but you still have to be out there so that people (women) can see you exist.

Go out, have a good time, be yourself - and the person who likes you for you will be there one day. Just don't count the days.

In the mean-time, remember:

Being single is not a problem or an illness - it's just a status - and one that can change at any time (whether you're with someone or not).

Your best asset will always be your friends, lovers will come and go, but your true friends will be there forever.

Seriously, Kronas, as has been stated above, you will meet somebody eventually, but you do need to go out. You say you have some off-line friends. Why not go out with them from time to time? See films, go for a drink etc (you don't need to drink Alcohol to go to a pub or club). You do need to be out and about to get noticed.

For instance, I met three ladies on Friday. One Californian woman (who was lovely but only here for a month or so), One Canadian (ditto), and one Greek women. The Greek woman didn't appear to like me. In fact, when she left, she shoke me warmly by the throat. Not sure what she was trying to achieve. She didn't appear to be trying to strangle me. I didn't do or say anything likely to cause offence (I remember, and I do have witnesses to back me up).

Admittedly, there is no chance of a full-time relationship with any of them (although I hope to stay in touch with the Californian), but my point is that I went out expecting to meet no one, and was pleasantly surprised.

BTW, Kronas, I haven't met you so can only go by the photos I have seen of you (of the 1st Manchester meet), but you are certainly NOT ugly.
