On the roof of a BMW?
I've started to notice that on the back of the roof of newer BMWs, just above the rear windscreen, a lot of them have what looks like a little shark's fin - it's about 2 or 3 inches high and looks dead naff, does anyone know what it is? As it's in the place you normally find a mobile phone antenna I thought it might be one of them but why not just put a normal looking antenna? Really, it looks as bad as a boy racer putting a spoiler on a 20 year old Fiesta.
Anyone know what it is?

Re: On the roof of a BMW?
How do you expect to cut people up on the motorway if you don't have a shark fin?
Standard kit in beemers?

Re: On the roof of a BMW?
I read the title of this thread and immediately had a mental image of Russ standing proudly on a BMW roof hoping for some wind in his hair but of course that's not possible.
then I had an image of him tied to the roof rack in some sort of stunt for his job.
So I find the real reason for the thread is a big disappointment
Incog.

Yer, I thought it was gonna be about some famous person indulging in an 'activity' on top of their car!
Got to agree about BMW styling too. I think the new 5-series look as though they're made by Mazda.

Re: On the roof of a BMW?
The boot of the Audi A8 can have a black disc on it with GPS embossed in it. Same concept I suppose.
The roof is the best place for antenna due to the diversity effect (or something like that - its been a while since i looked at it) it creates.
This design is car wash proof I would imagine.
