are you just looking for speakers & amp, or a dvd player too?
For £400 i'd go for the Sony or Panasonic all in one systems

best things for u to do is go to richersounds(or ur nearest shop) and get your self a nice surround amp try the Sony str-de585 or the Yamaha HTR5540RDS both r great and get the best speaker set u can afford remember if u get a fixed amp setup u can't upgrade later a nice separate system is always better u can add plenty of other devices i.e tape deck or connect to Ur ntl box, if u need any help deciding pm me

If you go for separates, you can get that Sony STRDE585 for around £200, but that only leaves you with £200 and you can't get any sort of decent set of surround speakers for £200.
This
http://www.richersounds.co.uk/index....hp&p=davs550r2
is more in your price range.
It's probably more worth your while to save up for a while longer and go for the separates.

I totally agree...Go to Richer Sounds. I wouldn't personally bother with a Sony amp though...Don't forget to budget for Cables though...Especially speaker Cables, as with 5 to 6 of them they can take a large chunk of your budget.
If you want to run the system off your PC. It will need a soundcard with an optical output on it, to plug into the amp.

The sony's great, but a set of 5 speakers for £200 won't do it justice, keep saving!!

true but depends on what he wants he can always upgrade later the diff between low to mid range speakers isn't much but from low to high can be £ÃÆ ’‚£Ãà¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã…¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£Ãƒââ‚ ¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£
