wireless pci card v usb

I'm thinking of getting a wireles router so I can connect my 2 pcs to the internet, but I just wondered which is better apci card or a usb. I'm fairly sure that the pci is faster, but is there any difference in the quality of the reception?

Re: wireless pci card v usb

I've had both and the PCI one proved to be the most unreliable. It was one of the first though....The advantage of the USB one is the lead. You can move it around to get better reception. And it is easily transportable to another PC

Re: wireless pci card v usb

some of the USB ones can have some nasty bugs if you use WinXP with certain motherboards.

Re: wireless pci card v usb

Pci card normaly have a stub antena on the back of the card, this means the case is in the way of the signal. I find the pci card to be more stable but only with an external antena.

Usb is better if you are going to move the unit from pc to pc and as Salu says it you will find it easier to get a decent connection.

Re: wireless pci card v usb

thanks for the advice, I've decided to get one of each as eventually I want to have both my pc's wireless so I'll try them both on the furthest pc from the router and use the one with the best results

Re: wireless pci card v usb

Don't forget USB will take up more CPU time than a PCI model, worth remembering if you're planning to do any online gaming.
