Funny really, the more TV sport has been moved to subscription & advert funded channels, the less I watch, and the less I feel it is worth watching.

Grandstand, as I'll remember it, with things like motorcycle scrambling & amateur athletics, was about the sportsmanship, the taking part, not just winning at all costs.

So while I'll be sad to see it go, I feel I am also seeing the demise of an era where 'well played' was, at least, as satisfying as getting a boot sponsorship, if not more so ...

As the BBC article says. Grandstand has been getting sidelined in recent years anyway. Once upon a time, everything sport on BBC1 on a Saturday afternoon was Grandstand. Now, increasingly large chunks of it have brands of their own. Football Focus went that way years ago.

Personally I have better things to do with my Saturday afternoons than sitting in front of the telly anyway, so it's no great loss to me ...
