Hi.

I know that, as I said in my first post, it cost me £9.43 over christmas when I was on dialup only to find out that the fault then was with NTL, I wasn't amused.

Looks like that is what I have to do again or put up with it.

TBH, it does sound more like a connection problem than a problem with your settings.
Hi.

Before I get intouch with Tech Support, just thought I would show you this test I did a few minutes ago. This is the type of connection I was getting before this started :-

Dan Elwell's Broadband Speed Test
Speed Test Report 05/01/24 08:05 - Quick test
Test conducted at: 24/01/2005 08:05:00
Test sequence: Quick test
Please note that these results are a snapshot of this particular moment. Run the test a few times to ensure maximum accuracy. Although the test has been constructed to be highly accurate, no guarantees can be made to the level of accuracy experienced in everyday use.
Test 1: Ping times to UK servers
Ideally, you should get a result of around 30 ms (lower is better)
swansea.ac.uk: 32.8 ms
worcester.ac.uk: 31.5 ms
vantage.myby.co.uk: 30 ms
The results of this test indicate no problems.
Test 2: Ping times to European servers
Ideally, you should get a result of around 50 ms (lower is better)
uni-kl.de: 55.3 ms
gmd.de: 53.3 ms
sunet.se: 67.5 ms
The results of this test indicate no problems.
Test 3: Ping times to east-coast USA servers
Ideally, you should get a result of around 120 ms (lower is better)
unet.brandeis.edu: 132.3 ms
club.cc.cmu.edu: 111.8 ms
mirror.nocservices.com: 99.5 ms
The results of this test indicate no problems.
Test 4: Ping times to west-coast USA servers
Ideally, you should get a result of around 160 ms (lower is better)
berkeley.edu: 182.3 ms
redhat.netnitco.net: 188 ms
ucla.edu: 185.5 ms
The results of this test indicate no problems.
Test 5: Download speeds from UK servers
Ideally, you should get a result of around 512 Kb/s (higher is better)
mirror.ac.uk: 479 Kb/s
The results of this test indicate no problems.
Test 6: Upload speeds to the Speed Test Server
Ideally, you should get a result of around 256 Kb/s (higher is better)
broadbandspeedtest.net: 255 Kb/s
The results of this test indicate no problems.
Test 7: Packet loss en route to a UK server
Ideally, you should get a result of around 0 % (lower is better)
cardiff.ac.uk: 2 %
swansea.ac.uk: 0 %
A small amount of packet loss has been detected. This should be investigated.
End of testing.

Quite a difference.................
