Re: Coronavirus
I am just getting over a bad cold... it was a bit worrying as my chest was sore on coughing, I also had a slight temperature and then the cold went to my head aka snot bag galore.
Back to work tomorrow (maintenance man at a care home).

Nature does that without any help.

Re: Coronavirus
One thing I've not heard a peep about during this "crisis" is the antiviral drug Tamiflu.

There are research teams at Liverpool working on this. Covid-19 has similarities with MERS (which IIRC is also a coronoavirus), which is fairly well understood - including the fact that it seems to be more dangerous in combination with certain other pathogens. It may turn out that older people, with weakened immune systems and greater exposure to the various microscopic nasties that exist, are thereby simply more susceptible.

It’s not effective against Coronavirus. Tamiflu is designed to attack a specific feature of the influenza virus. Coronavirus is not influenza.

Also, from the same article

Shiver told me that the authority doesn’t expect to have anything ready for human trials until much later this year. “It’s difficult,” Shiver said, “to see how, even in the case of an emergency, a vaccine could be fully ready for licensure in a year and a half.”

Of course, computer simulations are one thing, the results may vary in the real world but there is potential out there before any vaccine comes on line

Re: Coronavirus
My place of work is going into 'coronavirus mitigation plans' meaning they're trying to build what they can quickly for customer orders(probably not possible as it takes days/weeks to build a digital printhead through the line) as they fully expect a government shutdown, if only 1 person shows signs of the virus we will get shut down as i work in a cleanroom, scary time!

Re: Coronavirus
The Lancet has published the following
Quote:
Clinical course and risk factors for mortality of adult inpatients with COVID-19 in Wuhan, China: a retrospective cohort study
|
Bit of a long read but interesting to see the breakdown of the findings based on the earliest group to contract COVID 19.

Our work has banned all 'non business critical' travel globally and has stopped all attendances at exhibitions and conferences. I reckon we're not far away from most office based people to be told to work from home where possible (makes no difference to me as I work from home all the time anyway)
Manufacturing will continue though, even in China, as the business I am in is directly related to healthcare.
