If someone put it on one setting, could you tell what one it was on? Can anyone? The differences are that minimal it doesn't really matter what one you have it on. Most pick 1080i because it's just a bigger number than 720p. It really is getting down to the nitty gritty ain't it.

Re: 720p or 1080i?

1080i seems more but if you have a lot of movement than a progressive scan is better. Progressive updates the whole screen while interlaced updates even, then odd, then even, then odd, lines. The result is that when it refreshs only half of the lines on screen are correct while the other half is behind. Normally it doesnt matter but in theory it would cause a blur.

The speed is too fast to notice in most cases so its up to you.

Also HDTVs and xbox 360 are better at progressive while the games are 720 native. So I would go for 720, its better. Also the difference between 720p and 1080p is not really much that you can see let alone 1080i

I've have my 360 set at 1080p (VGA) on my Samsung LE40F71BX. I have tired it at various settings and also on component (1080p). VGA is the best picture (plus no overscan) and in my opinion 1080p gives the best results.

Re: 720p or 1080i?

I can tell the difference on my lcd between 1080i and 720p, 1080i does indeed try and look a little sharper but it falls down from flickering in the white sections and general jaggled lines in areas of high contrast under motion.

I just wish the ps3 would let me set a default resolution and other 'optional' resolutions, rather than it letting me tell it which ones my tv supports and then picking the highest one.
1080p of course will give the best results however most tv's dont support it!
Those that do are tv's with a native resolution of 1920x1080 or above
The only real use for an interlaced picture is on a crt.

Yeah, Very few TVs support 1080p. Even so its not a big difference and this stage. 720p is the sweet spot.
