Detailed Server Status

Just checked out the Blueyonder Server Status page. I am impressed to say the least. They even list what we engineers term as Network Masters ie franchise/HFC type outages and with updates. Maybe we could suggest ntl to do the same. I have tried to include a poll to see if everyone agrees.

Re: Detailed Server Status

I'm sure, ages ago on .com, they ran a competition for a user to design a new, improved server/status page - i remember someone winning, but what came of it, i don't know...

Re: Detailed Server Status

Hmmm, well I guess that as the page wouldn't make very nice reading for the majority of the time, it wouldn't be something they would hurry to implement! Of course NTL wouldn't need the "Incomplete Binaries" tag would they! "Inability to ever connect to shoddy newsgroup server" might be a better tag!

Re: Detailed Server Status

I think it would be a better move if the server status page told customers what the cause of the fault was, be more open about it instead of. 'This has now been resolved'.

Re: Detailed Server Status

At least the new email server now seems to be usable. Let's hope it carries on like this!

It looks like they have a web front end for their fault reporting system so the server status comes straight out of the system but NTL's system may not have that option at the moment and they'd need a new one (which is expensive!)

I know that something like this was planned in my current job but for some reason, it the whole fault reporting system quietly stopped at phase 1 (out of 3). We were all told to be VERY careful what we wrote in certain sections as the customer would be able to see them.

In short, we can hope but I suspect that they cannot do anything new at the moment.

But this is ntl we're talking about here, a company well known for it's ability to BS it's customers at any given opportunity, & tell them whatever they need to to get them off the phone.

Sorry m8, but if you're expecting ntl to be 'open' about the problem, I think you will have a very long wait-they have been nothing like open in the last 10 months or so since the mail problems started-Ben & I even went to see Aizad to highlight the problem (for what notice he took )

Re: Detailed Server Status

The problem with having a more detailed server status page is that it would need someone with more information to put on it & we all know that the people that work there find it hard to even write down that there is a problem let alone anything about whats causing it, what its effect is etc.

Obviously I mean this as no slur on anyone using NTHW...lol

Re: Detailed Server Status

More detail would be nice - but then I guess the question is - do you want them to spend time fixing the fault or updating a status page ?

Talking Re: Detailed Server Status

More detail would be nice as you would see what was going on and a status page like Blueyonder would be good but would probably be stuck at:

Mail - Unreliable and often down
News - Missing posts and generally unuseable
Proxys - Slow and intermittant
